Supercharger for CL-S
Everyone,
I am currently investigating a supercharger for our CL-S. Right now I have an estimate for approx. $4,500 for the unit. Installation will depend on the shop that does the work. I will definetly have it built for my 2001 CL-S along with titanium gearing for the transmission. I would like to know how many other members would be interested in a S.C. option that is estimated to generate ~7-10 PSI and ~45-60 HP. These numbers will stay approximate until I actaully have the the unit tested. It will be a centrifugal supercharger/blower similar to that of which is available for the Honda S2000.
If there is a resonable market (at least 5-10) SERIOUS inquiries I will introduce it for the Xephyr Performance line-up for a late summer release. This is all approximate and nothing is finalized yet. My own CL-S is going to be done the first week of May. After I conduct performance gains and the like I will publish my results. Anyone that is local to central New Jersey will be welcome to visit and review/test-drive. After which I will pre-qualify a minimum of 5 interested customers. Again, allow me to reiterate this post is only to gain a better idea of the marketability of this product and it is NOT ready! However, I would like to know how many other member would be willing to purchase a proposed Xephyr Performance SC in the future. I will not accept payments until the units are boxed and ready to ship, that is why I would honestly prefer only SERIOUS inquiries to reply to this thread. I mean no disrespect to anyone else, however this endeavor will require me to put 30-40K out of my pocket and I would like to know how many members here would seriously consider this as an upgrade. This WILL NOT include the transmission upgrade. The parts required for the transmission will be at least $600 w/o labor. Please limit replies to this post to only SERIOUS inquiries. For all other question please start a new thread or email SuperCharger@XephyrPerformance.com .

Xephyr,
To be honest with you, I guess $4500 + labor + tranny upgrade + its labor for just 45-60 HP more is not worth it. This is my feeling.
Look at vortech SC (civic Si) and Comptech SC (S200) at leat each will give you 40% more HP or some 117 HP (Vortech) and 100HP(Comptech). Even both are 4-cylinder engines.
So, unless you would be able to compete with those potential CL-S SC providers (Total $/HP, and max HP atainable) you better start collect downpayments from your CL-S/TL/Accord V-6 would-be SC buyers before starting this project.
Again, good luck.

I bought the TRD(factory) supercharger for my Toyota Tacoma last year. It is a 3.2L V6 that had 190 HP stock and 265 with the supercharger. The supercharger generates 6 PSI of boost. It cost me just at $3000, including installation.
The big plus to this installation(and why I would probably not be interested in an aftermarket supercharger for the CL-S) is that my factory drivetrain warranty is not affected. In fact since the supercharger is made by Toyota, it is covered along with the drive train(5 yr/60,000 miles). Sorry

Perhaps some clarification about your numbers would help. Are you talking about hp gains at the front wheels or at the flywheel (or did I miss something)?

Also, I suspect you are just starting to work out some numbers, but I suspect you will need to:
1. Give us an idea of what kind of support you are going to provide in the form of a warrantee (a la Comptech).
2. Vortex/Centrifugal superchargers are funny devices and tend to make for exponential HP curves. Can you enlighten us as to the rpm range you are targeting?
I can think of a lot of nice gains, but I can also think of a lot of stuff that may have to be sorted out via way of Acura...
When you talk about titanium tranny parts, your talking some exotic stuff. Would some of this include changes to the torque converter and gear ratios?

Interested in a Super Charger, you bet. But
$4,500.00 is out of my range. I am probably dreaming, but I'd like to see a SuperCharger Header, including install for $3,700.00 to $4,000.00.. Oh well, I can dream..

As for this SC... I wouldn't buy it. HP to dollar ratio is just too crazy.
And super chargers are some fancy shit... require a lot of R&D. How can you put together a SC of the same quality as Comptech? The reason Comptech is taking so long is they say it is tons of R&D... and they have a whole department.
Even so, if the comptech SC is $4500 I won't get that either... just too much money. Id rather use that money as a downpayment on a faster car

But I did hear that Level 10 does do the upgrades. Does anyone have the correct URL for Level 10?
Thanks
