Stuck in park
So I went out to my car this morning and to my surprise it wouldn't come out of park, I do not hear the normal clicking beneath the shifter that I usually hear when pressing the brake pedal. Assumed it would be the brake switch however my brake lights are fully functional, second I checked the fuse its fine as well. Nothing has been spilled in it or anything either, I will say though that if I play with the brake and the shifter enough it will finally shift but I refuse to leave and get stuck somewhere lol. Any ideas guys, this is my only form of transport now as I sold my 97 so I gotta get her back up and running, preferably without spending and arm and leg. Thanks in advance

In the mean time, while you figure out the problem, there is a "quick release" button to shift the trans in cases like this. Often times its located right next to the shifter, covered under a coin size cap. Pop it off and use something to push the button (perhaps another key).

That part I know lol, haven't tried doing it however but just assumed that would work if I couldn't get it to shift. That was my plan for the morning, I'm going to take it to my local mechanic I guess and let them hunt the issue down. I appreciate any tips or help offered. Thanks

Check and see if the letter "P" is being lit when your in park. I have the same issue, my car wont turn off or get out of park unless that light is lit. I think it has to do with a loose connecter in the shifter. I jiggle the shifter while in park for a while until the light is lit then everything works just fine

just try the quick release then re try it regular sometimes they just stick ... i can sometimes because from things like bad motor mounts allow the car to put a load when parked on an incline ...

Yeah I had this same thing happen to me only once. For some reason it started working after I shut the car off, then turned it back on a couple minutes later. It's been working just fine ever since. So yeah in my case I'd say maybe a loose connection?
But if it is the brake switch, iirc it's pretty easy to replace, according to some people around here.
