Strange issue with volume controls on wheel

Has anyone had any problems where the ^ and v volume buttons reverse, or sometimes the track skip switch? Once in a while I hit vol ^ and the tracks change, then I can hit the track change button and the volume increases, or sometimes the up and down volume buttons are reversed (no it's not b/c the wheel is turned..) Just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this? I usually just keep hitting all 3 buttons and eventually it gets back into sync and works normal. Seems to have happened 15 or so times since I bought it new (8/02, 15K miles ago).

Don't know what the difference between 1st and 2nd gen is here, but the same thing started happening with mine about 18 months ago. It got progressively worse until the buttons stopped working almost completely. Now, the buttons work about 1 time in 50 and perform random functions. It's not important enough to me to take it apart so now I just expend the effort and reach ALL THE WAY to the HU in the dash.

Yeah I have the same problem on my 99 TL. It usually happens in the morning when the car is colder. I will press the volume down button and the volume will go up!! pretty strange.

I notice if my steering wheel is perfectly straight all the buttons work like their supposed to.

Happened to me a couple of times. I will try to reproduce and see if the dealer can fix it.

My ^ button will occassionally change the tracks, as you stated. There are no other problems with the system.

Never had trouble with mine

I know that if i ever have a car without a built in control setup like this, I'm going to go nuts. I've been spoiled :o

I had that trouble a few times a while back. Asked the question here, but no one knew what it was. It was sporadic, so I wasn't able to reproduce it for the dealer. I chalked it up to a minor annoyance

That's the problem, its not reproducible on demand. I sort of wish it was 100% malfunctioning now so I could make the dealer fix it. Its good to hear that others know what I'm talking about though.. What a freaky issue. I guess I'll just have to live with it. I'm going to the dealer to get a window seal replaced so I'll ask them if there is a way for them to check it without seeing the problem in person.

Thx,
Jon

Mine does the volume thing but not track. I usually change volume with the button but if I then change it with the knob, it goes opposite, then goes the right direction.

This is a gripe i have as well. If you miss the track by one you have to around the entire CD to get back to that track. Damn how lazy have i become??

OK...hehehe...it's a grounding problem...there is a bulletin on the old cl's i believe. What you have to do is remove the steering wheel and the cable reel to access the grounding copper washer. Then take a small flat head screwdriver and place very light dimple marks around the copper washer...about 8 marks are needed...be careful not to push to hard on the copper because tyou wwill go thru it...no hammer needed...just push w/ a little bit of force...for those that are in warranty....tell the dealer what I just typed...they should know what I'm talking about...bring up the bulletin on the old cl's also...same thing...happens w/ every acura model so it's all the same...good luck

Thanks Ant7701. I'll print this page out and bring it with me. I also noticed that it happens all the time when the wheel is turned, so with the fact that its now reproducible and with this info, I'll hopefully get it taken care of. Thanks again for all the feedback everyone. I'll update the post after I go to the dealer next week.
