Strange clicking sound

Hi everyone. My 03 CLS 6 MT has developed a clicking/tapping sound. I first noticed it coming home from Berkeley on Sat. It’s coming from the engine area and is definitely associated with acceleration. The sound is not loud, but it’s a rapid clicking when I press on the gas. When I release the accelerator it immediately stops. I can hear it to about the top of second gear, then the road noise drowns it out. At a stop light, or when I’m idling for more than 30 to 45 seconds it starts up again. All my fluid levels are OK. I just had CT headers and CAI installed about a month ago, but I don’t see where that could be the cause. Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Thanks for any info.

I've never had mine checked or replaced, the one ticking noise I had coming from the AC was repaired with a part replacement, btu I don't know what that was.

I believe this is still one of the emissions control items on the car, the one behind the driver side door makes you think the exhaust is bouncing on the car.

yeah i was gonna say purge valve solenoid...same thing happened on my dad's TL. Was replaced and 50K miles later a very similar noise came back...brought it to the shop and the guys said it had rod knock? long story short, they wanted 7 grand to fix it, so we sold the car to a different dealer and got a G35

WOAH WOAH......7 grand! that's insane. What's rod knock? and do you know what might have caused this? ......I defenitly have to go get it checked out before the warranty runs out.

Rod knock is usually a crank bearing going or the piston slapping in the cylinder. The $7k is for a rebuilt or exchanged engine. I dont buy that one in an automatic TL unless it was seriously abused. Manual tranny cars that are abused can do this, or really old cars getting poor lubrication to the bottom end.

I have the same clicking noise coming from the exact same location... but I hear it during idle too (and it gets louder/faster when I step on the gas). The dealer said it was "normal", but I never used to hear it before from inside the car. I know the clicking you hear outside from under the car is normal, but this can't be the same thing.
