2003 CL type-S Manual...
Just a warning to all my NYC fellows to watch out for their HIDS when parking by the WestSide. This happened a block away from the club that I was throwing a party at on 46th btw 10+11th Ave. The area was poorly lit and they housed my headlights in a blink of an eye. I believe these guys are very seasoned in stealing headlights. Who ever did this will pay by karma and burn in hell!
Sorry just pissed…

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes, insurance will cover it thank god but I do have to pay $1,000 deductible since I think this repair will be over 3 Gs. I will garage my car from now on when i'm going out.

That sucks. That area of Manhattan is bad for parking. I park on the streets all the time. Word of advice to all you guys driving and parking around that area of the city, do yourself a favor, and drive up to 57th street and park between 10 Ave and 8th Ave, then take a cab. That area is a lot safer and parking is usually available.

dude, Midtown west side close to West Side Highway is the one of the worst places to park cars, dark, very few people, dangerous, full of empty warehouses and god knows what the heck going on in it.
My apartment is around Murry Hill, it is pretty safe here, *knock on wood* I park my CLS in the neighborhood pretty often, hasn't had any problems yet.

Parking garages aren't much better. I parked my truck in a nyc garage over x-mas and when i came back to get it the bumper was half hanging off and dented. They immediatly said "that was there". took 3 months to get money from them to fix it. just a heads up if you ever go to a garage make sure you walk around the car and you sign that there was no damage.

I assume those will end up on eBay, right? Where else would thieves sell CL HIDs?
I think we need to keep an eye on eBay and see if we can track the bastards down. Sorry to hear about this man.

That bites the big one
I agree with the others. These guys definitely knew what they were doing. I don't think they were concerned about minimizing damage to the vehicle as much as minimizing damage to the HID's. Seeing those pics makes my stomach turn.

the sides of our bumpers can easily be unbolted giving enough room to reach the bolts holding the lower bracket. then they just peeled back the tips of the fenders to reach the top screws. if you want to give them a harder time and possible theft deterrent, i would replace the main screw that holds the bumper in the fender well with a torx security screw. and replace the top screws with the same. you may even be able to order security bolts that fit on the lower brackets. i'd sa maybe $5 worth of hardware and possibly saving you thousands. i'm in the city frequent enough, i may look into this.

It might keep the thief from getting his prize, but I’m sure he’ll smash the crap out of the car if he can’t get the headlights out clean.

Along with the 2002-2003 Maxima/02-04 I35, the 2G CL/TL are cars to avoid ownership of in NYC for this specific reason.
Although my Maxima is garage kept nightly, it is unfortunate that I cannot take it certain places (NYC being one of those places).
CLPlatano, you are correct in your assertion of Queens being an HID theft hotspot. I cannot even bring my Murano to a Met game for fear of the chop shops across the street (from Shea) stripping my bixenons.

Wow sorry to hear HID theft is so bad down there.
But business wise, I'm guessing people are buying stolen HIDs to repace thier own stolen HIDs.
How can they just keep selling these things?
Is everyone w/o HIDs getting HIDs?

not really any way to trace them if the theif waits 6 months and puts them up on ebay.. would almost be smart to have a serial# or something like that laser etched or burnt into the casing... something that they'd have to wreck the light to be able to sand it off.... similar to our windows? if you get my drift..
unless they ARE marked and I'm just unaware --- dont have a big issue with HID theft up here.. plus I garage park too..

DRINKING HAS A ME PROBLEM
both sides are almost identical. that must have sucked to drive home after the party. there must be a way to stop them. ill park my car in a bad area. and have a Desert eagle with me and hide in the bushes. take them out one by one. soon they will get the message or all be killed off.

I just got my CL-S, and this shit HORRIFIES me! I had no idea folks were stealing these damn lights. Seriously, there's gotta be some way to deter them from this...like some warning sticker that says "These lights are secured/theftproof" or something (which is incredibly corny, but damn!)

well.. the way they stole my housing. they just crowbard the sh*t out of it and broke all the brakets and housing in the proces.. all they wanted were teh ballast and bulbs.. so even if i would've tried to secure it.. they woulda just ripped it out anyways. the brackets are plastic in the end.. not steel

I live in the Newark NJ area and a few years ago HID's were like crack. Everyone was feening for them. They would install them on any car. Even hoopties. Once in a while u see a car without headlights. I guess people realize there more of a hassle to own if you buy a stolen set. Its a bitch to take apart if u glued to fit it and bulbs and ballasts are expensive. Who wants to invest into something that's stolen???? Anyways, sorry for the lost. I would try adding a motion sensor to each headlight and some airhorns so if anyone does attempt to steal them the noise may deter the theives.
