Angry Stolen Airbags! WTF?

Well apparently my area has experienced significant airbag thefts from Hondas and Acuras.

Myself and another person in my neighborhood expeirieced waking up to a car with no passenger side window, and no airbags.

The thieves must have been professional and only interested in airbags as they skipped over my TV headunit and digital camera which I left in the car overnight.

They did a clean professional looking job. Didn't damage anything in my car other than stealing my airbags and breaking my window.

There were so many Hondas and Acuras in my neighborhood I couldn't figure out why it was just my Acura CL-S and the other guy's Honda Accord. Then I realized we both have tint. Both of our passenger side windows were basically on the curb still in tact being held together by the tint so there was never a shattering noise when they did it.

Here's my question, first off anyone else had their airbags stolen before. What a bunch of bullshit. I understand the concept, it just sucks.

Secondly, would a glass sensor have set my alarm off, EVEN THOUGH my windows didn't technically SHATTER because it was held together by tint?

Do they sell a glass sensor that would work with the factory alarm? How about a proximity sensor that would work with the factory alarm?

the factory alarm does not come with a shock sensor, therefore it won't be activated when someone or something hits the windows. Hope everything works out for you

If a thief uses a center punch most likely it would not have set off a glass breakage sensor.

Add a shock sensor or 2. It's easy to do. First thing I did when I got my car.

with glass break sensors, usually anything hard ie. a key, screwdriver, rock, hammer
anything like that will set it off with the slightest touch...
you'll have to replace the oem alarm and get a decent alarm with shock, tilt, and glas break... you should be fully covered with that.... maybe a heat sensor just incase

That was the first thing I did when I got mine, if you live near Montgomery County or willing to travel I can recommend Audio Explosion on Brookville Road in Silver Spring. They got great advice on Viper Systems.

Or you could just move to a safer place?

Mine is set just right, no problems with minor contacts like that. Really just one false alarm caused by a motorcycle. What I also like is if you really have to back into the car pretty good to trip the alarm but if you pound on the windows with moderate pressure the alarm kicks in. Also set the alarm up to sound unique to the regular mutli tone you hear all the time.

Airbags sell for good money on the parts blackmarket. They had their eyes on one thing and didn't bother looking for anything else. you'd be surprised at how good car thieves are at doing what they do undetected.

I thought Juniorbean sold shock sensors that hooked up to the factory alarm.

That's doo doo that they would even steal a damn airbag. Safety first I guess.

The honda dealership I purchased the CLS from installs shock sensor alarms on all it's cars. So, I decided to take up the option for like 200 bucks and get it along with the car. Works perfect and has a nice shiney blue light! Not too sensitive but does it job. As for the move to a safer place thing, lol. Safer=exclusivity=money=education=social environment/living situation growing up. Basically, many people in new Orleans were already screwed before Katrina hit if you understand.

Just wante dto comment on the whole... "move to a safe place" thing. I don't like to tell what City/County I live in, but let's just say it's just as good as Montgomery County. Bethesda, Chevy Chase, etc. High class. Expensive place to live.

But here's the newsflash. That's where criminals go to do their dirt. Go to ghetto and potentially get an 88 Accord, or go to the nice neighborhoods and jack the latest cars and their equipment. It doesn't matter where you live.

Back in the late-90s, airbag thieves snatched the airbags to at least every Integra on the lot of Brunswick Acura (now called Open Road Acura) East Brunswick.

I'm assuming this is partially why there are so many airbags on ebay:
