Stock Michelins and dry rot

Anyone notice that the stock Michelin's tread seems to get very hard and unforgiving. I had about 6/32 left ( 2years and 18000 mile}but the rubber was smooth and hard and looked like it had lossed its flexibility. Just looked worn out even though it had tread on it. New Sumitomos greatly improved ride, road holding and noise. R

I think you're the first one here on board to give the Sumitomos a try.

"Put the Caddy up, start the three wheel Benz
Hyper white lights, ultra Violet lens
Suma-tuma tires and they gotta be run flat"

Name that song...

I bet your Sumitomo's aren't run flat...

I have Sumi's HTR+ (Y or W rated speed, 150mph+), 360 tread wear, highest tread wear rating of any Z or higher speed rating tires I am aware of.

I have 235_40_18 on my CL, and 215_50_17 on my MilleniaS.

These are great tires, & I couldn't tell the diff. on performance between this & my Kumhos...

Also, the 235s has larger contact patch than my 235 Kumhos

2years and 18000 mile might be why. You don't drive much, maybe they just sat too long.

Could be but; don't think so. That's almost 10,000 miles a year. I think the rubber just loses its elasticity after a few years. Michelins have this reputation, I think.
I've posted this several times but I got them at Sears for $89 a tire based on their ad of matching internet retailer's price (tirerack). Usually $140.
Sumitomos---Very good grip, 360 treadwear- Z rated--VERY QUIET.
Car feels 100% better. Much more secure.

There is a review of the Sumitomos on TireRack, which the person was told these are in direct competition with the Pilot A/S. If this is the case, and the good reviews keep coming in, I may have to try them in a few years.
