Steering wheel Swap

About the only thing I hate about the CLS is the steering wheel. It's too big & not thick enough.

I read a few threads about the possibility of a swap to a RSX steering wheel. But has anyone done it? Or swapped to a different wheel & kept the stereo & cruise controls?
I understand the airbag will have to be rewired as well as the control buttons.

I know someone made a s2k steering wheel work. The airbag connections had to be soldered, and I think the cruise controls worked too. But, there were no audio controls. Don't think the guy comes around much any more, though. Here was his thread, but the link is dead now: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ht=wheel+s2000

I don't like how the S2K looks in the CL interior. But I do think the RSX/TSX steering wheel would look really good, and probably a lot better for turning since the RSX especially is much smaller in diameter.

I agree, the CL steering wheel is like a school bus steering wheel!

its not that its a school bus wheel, its cause the damn thing is so dated....it was the same wheel in the 98+accord.

TSX steering wheel isn't much different in diameter compared to the CL.

Now the RSX steering wheel is COMPLETELY different sized than the OEM CL steering wheel. I'm not sure if they're a direct swap or not. In my buddy's '00 Prelude he swapped in an S2K steering wheel with no difficulty whatsoever, but I'm not sure if we can do the same with the RSX wheel.

I haven't touched an RSX wheel since 2002 but when I ever have a TSX loaner the one thing I love about it is the wheel
Hope this works out for you

That, and the airbags are too advanced for our saftey system. But I think the wheel itself will fit.

The air bag was a nice score.. that's the most expensive part of a steering wheel swap nowadays...

I know I remember someone talking about the RSX steering wheel before... A search for STEERING WHEEL RSX* might turn up some stuff...

That is some funny shit!

the RSX/TSX steering wheel would look really good. I simply replaced my worn out wheel with a new one. BE CAREFULE when you pull the current wheel off. I tore the Airbag wiretape spool apart when I manhandled my wheel off. You shold have seen my face when I ripped the wheel off like a meathead and the whole tape fell out on the floor. I was able to put it back together and was lucky not to have broken anything. The tape I am refering to is the spool that allows you to turn the wheel and still have the electrical functions of the cruse/vol/airbag.

I have been debating having my old oem wheel bolstered so it was thicker on the inside of the diameter of the wheel while maintianing the same Outside diameter and possibly covering it with velvet. JK. I would like to maybe cover it in a matching parch or black suede like the M3 steering wheel. I think I could get it done localy for $250 or less.

Good luck with the RSX wheel fuzzy.

I for one wouldn't change a thing about the CL-S wheel, I love that I can hold it on one knee when needed to and it firmly controls the boat that we drive.

I thought it wouldn't be a good conversion to go from CLS to RSX wheel .. Heard something about internal airbag technology or somethin' like that, that's what prevented me from being interested in something like this. I wouldn't be worried about the audio controls myself, since I have an aftermarket deck anyway ..

Let us know how it goes please, if I come into money this summer this is probably THE project I'm gonna do.

From what I read you can only go 03 to 03 since the 03 CLS had the dual stage airbags & 01-02's did not.

If you have an aftermarket deck you can still use your controls. I have an Alpine IVA-W200 and I got the steering wheel control relay installed ASAP.

I knew I could do that, I was just too lazy and wanted to finish the project up .. told myself I'd do it later, but when "later" came, I decided not to do it because it took so long to tear everything up.

Kinda iffy on the Honda symbol, but hell, that can be fixed. That said, DETAILS ARE MANDATORY HERE LDAJF:L JFOEWGJEWQLJ

That DOES look good though. Too bad it wasn't done on an '01 so I can at least have SOME hope of switching out my wheel.

The steering wheel is a s2000. Cruise controls switch is a rsx. The radio controls are from a Honda odyssey. The air bag is a single stage and the oem cl bag is 2 stage. a resistor has to be installed to fool the sir module as not set sir malfunction indicator. The whole set up is a pain in the ass. The rsx wheel is almost identical as a s2000 except for the perforated leather on the s2000 and cruise switch. Neither wheel has oem radio controls. My last name is Honda, therefore the "h" remains.

So that's yours? Got any details on install that may or may not help me.

I got the complete column from the RSX & it's 03-03 so I'm not sure what to expect yet. I need to find the time to mess with it.

And you also have the rarest CL-S made, White on Black with Navi. One of 15 ever made.

This reminds me, the CL steering wheel leather on top has basically worn down where I always hold it. Is there any way to get it rewrapped and if not how much is it for a new steering wheel and install?

You can find a decent wheel on Ebay or post a thread in black market. I've seen them around. Some are new, some are used. You can use any wheel from a 2nd gen CL or TL.
Install varies. You have to disable the airbag system. Then remove the trim panels & get the air bag out. From there's it's the same as any steering wheel. Loosen the center bolt, attach a steering wheel/pulley puller to the center hub & crank it down till it pops off.

Stupid question probably answered with a search [ again ] but since '01 CL-S's are single-stage and S2K's are single-stage as well, would that be doable for me?

Fuzzy, I'm not sure if th Air Bag in the 02 is the same as the 03CL.You have to check the manual. If the 02CL is a single stage bag it should be a easier than mine. The airbag wiring should be the same. You'd have to take some resistance readings between the RSX and the CL.The cruise switch on the RSX wheel should plug right in. The Radio is from Honda Odyssey, forgot which year. You will have to fabricate a mounting bracket and trim the plastic trim cover to mount it to the wheel as the RSX had no radio controls on the wheel. Resistance values come from the Electrical Diagnostic Manual not the Standard Service manual. You have no Idea how much time I just saved you. Good Luck.
