Steering Wheel Questions Regarding Airbag

I've read that the airbag on the 03 CLs differ from the 01-02 CLs. I was planning on swapping my steering wheel for something alittle nicer. Which wheels work? I do like the RSX wheel as well as the TSX wheel. Does anyone know if the new (2009) TSX wheel will bolt up and if the airbag will work correctly? If not, any other wheels that will work?

TIA

Any Honda or Acura dual stage airbag. The 01 & 02 CL's had single stage. The only ones that will be plug & play far as I know is the RSX & S2K. The TSX & other wheels are more advanced with all the steering wheel buttons & stuff. While they may fit the wheel hub none of the wiring is compatible without rewiring.

Are all the RSX and S2k airbags dual stage? Or are some years different?

03+ S2K(might be 02+) But RSX is any 02 & up.
If you stay year to year with the CL 03 to 03 you will match up for sure. I have an 03 RSX wheel & airbag to install still.

Yea, I am leaning towards the TSX wheel as well, but I really want to keep the cruise and radio buttons functional. Did you get the harness that goes in the steering wheel or the one that goes on the steering column?

That doesn't make any sense since federal law required all airbags to be dual stage. Also, the 03 CLS is dual stage so it would not fit if it was single stage the connector would be different & your SRS lights would be on.

the airbag was not direct plug n play. it was hardwired and had to "trick" the ecu that there are two stages.

as of now i have neither, your post prompted me to check on my order with acuraoemparts.com and as far as i can tell (havent received a reply yet) my order placed on 11/16/08 hasnt shipped ---

I ordered the TSX pigtail harness. From what i gather from the illustrations it goes into both the column and the controls. I cant guarantee i will be able to make it work, but im going to try. Have the wiring schematics for the TSX, and im going to post a thread now looking for the CLs.

Is there a way to make the 03' CLS airbag work on the 01'? Would that be very labor intensive? How many wires to mess with. I sure like the way it makes the interior look.

from what i gathered. yes, in theory. but if you don't care about having both stages then you could essentially hook up on stage and leave the other disconnected. otherwise you would need to measure the resistance from the 01 bag and duplicate the same resistance with bothe stages wired up. pretty confusing if you are not electronically savvy.

So would it work in case of an accident? That's what I'm concerned about. I guess I would have to keep the old one and put it back on when I sell the car. I wouldn't want the future owner having serious problems if that airbag doesn't deploy correctly if they have a wreck.

i sure hope so. in theory it should still function "normally" as long as the srs light is off.

So to get back on this subject from a few months ago, the 03' airbag does not plug onto an 01'? You have to splice wires to get even 1 stage to work?? I guess no one has the balls to try it for fear that it might not work when it needs too. Like me.

If those members are on this board, I sure would like to ask them questions. Can you name them. I would love to see a DIY with pics on this subject. I think it looks great compared to the 01'. I haven't seen posts from members that did it.

I'm curious to find out as well. I'm considering swapping an 03-05 RSX steering wheel and airbag on my 01 CL which is a single stage airbag. Anyone have DIY instructions on which wires to splice?
