Spark plugs: Iridiums vs Platinums

I remember a few threads around here where members say to use NGK Lazer Iridiums, but my service manual says to use NGK Lazer Platinums. They both cost virtually the same, have pretty much the same list of features/improvements, etc...

Is there any real noticeable difference? Platinums seem to be more "OEM" than the Iridiums, but if Iridiums have better performance, then of course I'll get those..

Unless you have a heavily modded engine I'd go with what the factory recommends.

Iridium IXs?

Really now, I can't find any sites that tell the differences between these spark plugs.

they put lazer iridiums from the factory in 03 CLs and lazer platinums in the 01/02 CLs.

since the factory says the lazer plugs are good for 105k, im guessing iridium IXs wont be good for another 105k, if your okay with that.

FYI, i switched out my factory lazer plats to lazer iridiums at my 105k service

Really? I was getting my info from the Helms manual. I guess I'll get the Lazer Iridiums when I do my service.

btw does everything with the 7 year/105k service need to be done in succession? Like I mean if I change out the spark plugs a few months before I get the timing belt replaced, could anything be out of whack? Just curious.

There was a similar thread to this not too long ago, so here is what was posted.

Plug Dynos
http://www.sparkplugs.com/sparkplug4...Results&mfid=0

The IX had very consistent results besting the Laser in HP in 2 out of 4 runs and in torque 3 out of 4 runs. Not a big difference, but if you want consistent runs the IX was best.

note that the dyno test used lazer platnium and not lazer iridiums. Not sure if that would make a difference.

Yeah most places I've looked up say Lazer Iridiums are "stronger" than the Lazer Platinums, and that they require less voltage to get a spark out of. tbh I posted this topic wondering why people would choose Platinums over the Iridiums, if this was the case.

I've gone with Iridiums for two changes and have no complaints. Just Do It!
