sound of metal hitting metal when accelerating. help!

i know this probably has to do with the suspension but i havent figured it out. whenever i accelerate or switch gears and it would jerk lightly. i would hear this clicking or clunking noise from the front of my car. it sounds like metal hitting metal or something. the sound is annoying and possibily bad for the car/suspension and i was wondering if anyone has heard of or had this problem. could be due to removing and installing new shocks struts (i have comptech springs and kyb gr2s) helppp

My car did that somewhat when I had two broken transmission mounts. You may want to check those, they are different on the 6 speeds compared to the autos fyi.

i have a similar problem. Whenever I go over bumps I get this sort of jingling noise coming from the driver side. Dunno though, maybe the mounts are bad?

i talked to a friend today. i dropped him off at the train station and when he was in my car. he heard the sound, and before i even mentioned the problem to him, he said its the CV joint in the driver's side. anyone have a DIY for a 6-speed CV joint replacement?

Yeah I was going to say that. Your CV joints are likely gone. It's cheaper to buy a new axle set. Don't know how bad a DIY is. The parts are about $200 a side

you can check if its the cv joints by finding a big parking lot or something and doing a full circle both ways..you will hear some popping if it is. It doesnt sound like cv joints to me tho you would mainly hear those when turning..Maybe your struts didnt get torque'd down good and its hitting whenever your car jumps in the front? Happened to an old car of mine..but i may just be stupid and dont know shit -_- but its an idea.

don't say that jim. any input is good input. and your input is correct! but that still leaves me with my problem. it cant be the cv joint guys. I noticed that sound when I start my engine too. after the car cranks on, I hear that thunk, so i dont think it could be the suspensions. I'm beginning to think it's the transmission mounts because the transmission mounts on my car are the old ones originally on the CL i bought to do the 6 speed swap. I took a look at it eariler and it does look kinda funny. Any of you guys have the part number for both front and rear transmission mounts? Even if it doesnt solve the problem at leas i know that my mounts will be brand new. also, anyone have a diy on changing the tranny mounts on a CL-S 6-speed? mine is a TL but its basically the same concept. lol

oh well you didn't say it was a swapped 6mt TL.

In that case bad mounts sounds right. Not just trans but engine as well.
