but it hink jens answered my question...i suppose the hemi is heavier than the 4.7L thus reducing payload capacity

I looked at Dodge website and it lists the max towing as follows:

3.7L V6 - 3700 lbs
4.7L V8 - 7400 lbs
5.7L V8 Hemi - 8950 lbs

Only one figure was given for the max payload 1780 lbs.

Exactly, that is why the Expedition gives up some tow capacity, but not many people hook up trailers to those anyway...they are ususally driven by soccer moms. I just hope that companies don't move to IRS on trucks, and if they do (doubtful that they will make the move...but if) have an option on the order sheet for a live axle.
