Some dude in a Volkswagon VR6 wanted to play...

I think it said VR4, but VR4 sounds more like a Mitsu. 3000GT... Anyhoo, it said V something on the back...

I pulled up next to him and he revs on me. Roads were wet, so I wasn't sure how to handle the situation. So I just left it in SS with VSA on.

Light turns green and we both go, moderately off the line. I wasn't looking for a race. This guy clutches his fist mouthing "ya, let's go"... So I ease into the gas, and he's matching my speed rather well... That is until about 60 and then I started to pull... At 80, I shut it down, flashed my hazards and went on my way...

My question is... That Volkswagon seemed to hold its own, FAIRLY well. I was somewhat impressed. Is the VR4 the same as the 4-motion that Volkswagon sells now??? On car-stats.com, I couldn't find anything with a VR4 brand, so I'm wondering if I have the letters wrong...

Anyway, it was fun and the car handled pretty good on wet roads. God bless those Pilot A/S tires...

It was probably a VR6 which is a 2.8L V6 with 174hp and 181lb*ft. VW is making a 24V VR6 with 201hp but it's only availabe in the Jetta with an automatic right now.

Those VR6's can be fast, really fast. It is a decent sized engine in a rather light car. I have seen some REALLY fast VR6's, one may surprise you one day.

Scrib,

VR4 is a Mitsubishi mainly used in the 3000gt. VERY fast. They also had a Galant VR4 out a while back. That was a pretty nice car as well. You really don't want to line up with a 3000GT VR4, especially in the rain.

I'll remember that when I go to the next rain drag event.

the vr6 is a decent performer, but I'd be more concerned with the 1.8 turbos running around with gonzo chip setups.

I don't know all of the details, but one of my buddies said that he raced a 3000GT VR4 in his Civic hatchback with b16A swap and won. (I don't know by how much, probably little) The Civic has i/h/e, programmable fuel injection, quaife limited slip, and Hondata. He has 150 HP at the wheels.

Peace

I have a 98 Jetta VR6 modded with cams, chip and intake and exhuast and it can move and it is pretty fast of the line. In my opinion it will not beat the CL-S, but it wont be killed easy if it not stock. Some of these jettas will out run some MAXiMAs, Eclipse V6 and Prelude and Accord's no questions.
