Well driven the 99+ can be in the mid to high 15s. Mag racing...Evan Smith over at Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords pulled a 14.9 out of one. So I would think a decent driver could keep it in the 15s. I haven't run one, so this is just bench racing.

I know that the pre 99 v6 mustangs are not very fast at all. My friend had a convertible v6 auto and I continuously rompede all over him. Now the newer ones are pretty quick and I have not raced one yet, but I assumer they are in at least the mid7's in 0-60.

mustangs are not slow...v6 mustangs are slow. Find yourself a GT and you will lose more than win (assuming both are stock). Now TypeR will win more than lose to a GT but once lightly modded the GT will hang if not beat the 3.5 CL-R. All of you can forget the Cobra (except for maybe zootking, allmotor, and fastvtec...even then I don't really know).

All in all, it's not because of American engineering that they're slow, it's the use of OLD fuggin' technology in a modern world that puts 'em down.

Oh yeah, and they did make a 4 cylinder Mustang in the 80's and early 90's in the days of the Fox body and the Mustang II. It was a 3.2L straight 4 engine. Thought I have practically no knowledge of 'em, I've been told they don't get that great of gas mileage and have NO acceleration power, they outright just suck ass. I've also heard the earlier ones had about 88 HP and the newer ones had about 108 HP (not sure, can't remember). When Ford had the SVO going they made the 3.2L with a turbo and intercooler. That lasted for a few years. I think they started in 1974 when the Mustang II began as the "economical Mustang" since the oil crisis was not good for those who had the big gas-guzzling V8s. They lasted until 1993. During that run, some of the Mustang years had V6s, and the last coupe of years of the Mustang II (1977 and 1978) they had V8s in 'em, but some years it's was the 3.2L I4 and the 5.0L V8 only. 1994 marked when the V6 was brought back as the base and the 4 cylinder was eliminated, and it's been that way since '94.
So all in all Mustangs came with the option of having a 4 cylinder eninge from 1974 - 1993.

The current V6 is only about 190 bhp, so it's prolly around 160 at the wheels. Most other V6 engines used in cars today usually at least have an SOHC setup, a lot of the time a DOHC setup, generally more powerful than the V6 Mustang. If Ford made the V6 with a DOHC it'd prolly get around 240 HP (at a guess, not sure).
