Question Show me your cd player

I have been thinking of going aftermarket for a cd player. really wanting to get hd radio. I was just wondering what the standard cd player would look like with the dash kit. thanks!

HD radio is a joke. What they never mention is that "HD Radio" isn't high definition at all. It's digital which does offer some sound benefits. HD stands for Hybrid Digital but they know damn well they're just using the name to play off the current HD TV craze. HD Radio can carry 96 kbit/s on an FM station making it about as good as a really crappy MP3. Clear Channel, CBS Radio (formerly Infinity Broadcasting), Entercom and Cox Radio are running most of the stations on HD Radio so be prepared to get the same crap you get on normal radio. They've been urged to broadcast commercial free for 18 months or so (ending sometime in 2007), so right now it might seem cool with no commercials but they'll be back in force soon enough. HD Radio is used only in the US. Digital Audio Broadcasting and Digital Radio Mondiale are much more widely used around the world and there is a good chance that HD Radio will fail (and the switch would be made to one of the other 2 formats) and you'd be left with a worthless piece of equipment (think MiniDisc, Laser Disc, Beta, Sony UMD, etc).

If you're gonna pay for a new radio, you should get a radio worth paying for: Sirius.

I just think it'd be wise to wait a year or so and see if it catches on. Their dumping millions into advertising right now but not making much in the way of sales. Wouldn't it suck if you spent the money and went through installing it only to have it get canned like Laser Disc a year from now?

That would suck. I'm not one to be suckered into "hot new products" right away. I always wait a year at least before I buy something like that. For the exact reason of "What if it does go belly up?" So play it safe and don't waste your money.

One rule is that if it's a Sony standard, it's gonna fair. Beta, MiniDisc, UMD, etc... At least you don't have that going against ya here.

GreenMachine,

What dash kit is that? I have an Alpine to install and I am looking for a kit to match as close to the OEM black plastic as possible.

It is the standard metra kit for the CL/TL...I purchased it for like 10 bucks at Best Buy.
