Should I go with 18's or 19's on my 01 CLS?
Hey gang. Just wondering whether I should go with 18's or 19's on my '01 CLS? I live out here in the east coast where its homeland to the 4 season's, so the wheels would only see spring and summer. If I go with either setup, what springs should I get as well so that it won't affect the ride compared to stock. Also, performance is not a factor since I'm on probation with my license and going too fast is not part of my agenda right now. Any additional info would be helpful.

If the car isn't lowered, I thought both the 18 and 19's would increase the wheel gap??
That's why I am thinking of sticking with 17's as I do not want to lower my cls.
thoughts?

wheels???
19's dont ride that rough.....stock wheels with coilovers ride harder than 19's. i would go with 19's and springs so you can still maintain the comfortable ride!

19's, only way to go. Anything else looks too small. Even WRX's run 19's. Anything else is unacceptable. IMO.
BTW, not lowering your car is unacceptable, even more w/ custom wheels. If your not lowering, stick w/ the stocks and get new tires.

Lighter weight 17's or 18's (< 25 lbs), only way to go. It improves steering response and handling. Anything else is too heavy...slows your car down. Even Speedvision Touring & GT cars use light weight wheels. Anything else is unacceptable, IMO.
BTW, lowering your car improves overall appearance, but not lowering is acceptable, too.

I'd go with some 19s and 225/40/19 tires. They won't ride bad at all. Perhaps some Eibach springs as well. Ground Controls if you're feeling a little crazy, or hydraulics if you're a real man.

Thanks for all the info!!
Guys, thanks for all your insight on helping me decide which wheels to get. I think I'm gonna go with the 18's if the 19's don't rub. I'll check with the local wheel shops for more details. Also, will I have to get the speedo re-calibrated with either size? I'm thinking about the Comptec springs for not a harsh ride, and with some dope ass 18's. Not too sure yet. Will modifying the suspension and the wheels void my warranty? I'll send some pics as soon as I get them. Happy Holidays.

Rest assured, I will be sitting on some lightweight wheels. Who told you all 19's were heavy? I thought super touring cars ran 19's. The slight difference in performance will definately be made up for in the way it looks. Our cars are similer, we will have to compare notes when I get my wheels. Merry Christmas.

With the stocks at 26lbs and the Inertia being determined (in the "rough") with :
I = M * R^2 (for a hoop)
Work the ratios of the diameters / 2 to get the weight of a 19" wheel (if it was made to the same construction as the stock wheel):
8.5^2 / 9.5^2 ~= .8
26 * 0.8 = 20.8 lbs (in a 19" wheel to match the rotation inertia in the stock 17" wheels -- and this is just a ballpark comparison)
So, there was that guy with chrome 19" wheels that did 16.x second 1/4 miles...

why dont you get 18" rims that FLUSH with the lip of the rim, if you get a nice pimp style, it will actually look like their 19's..sometimes..definetly bigger than 18"s that dont flush.
this is what i want to do.
the CL rims flush with the lips, thats why they look bigger than the average 17's.

Certainly not all 19" wheels are heavy, but I'll bet there are damn few that are lighter than the stock 17" wheels.
