Should I buy the extended warranty?

Should I buy the extended warranty?
Ok, so I have about 400 miles left on the original Acura warranty, and have been considering buying the extended warranty. Do you guys think it's worth it, or would I be ok without it? As far as I know the 6spd has had very few problems; the only thing that worries me is the couple of posts I've read about the rear main seal leaking.
Any input or ideas would help. Thanks in advance for your replies.

It's always better to have it than not. Extended warranties pay for themselves in the long run, you never know what will fail on a car. Even if you don't use it, it's better to have piece of mind than the unexpected happening to you as you start your car on your morning commute to work.

I'd look at the cost to replace the rear main seal vs the cost of the warranty. If they are close I'd skip the warranty and take a chance on the seal.....if it goes I'm out about the same, if it doesn't I'm ahead.
Remember that Honda/Acura is preety bulletproof.

I got the extended warranty with my 6mt and have not had to use it once. But it is nice to know you have it just in case something major goes wrong with your car. If you can afford it, get it!

I guess it would b a good idea purchasing the extended warranty unless u planing on keeping the car for a couple of years. I have 71,000 miles and only replaced my tranny at 54,000 miles under extended warranty so that came in handy. oh by the way dats cool that u only have 400 miles on ur car. it looks like it has not been braking in yet.

or you can get the warranty and buy some xs headers.... Think about it. You buy the headers and something goes wrong with your car and now you are out more money than if you just get the warranty now and save for the ct headers later. If anything goes wrong with your car it is covered and they have the car towed to any acura dealership in the nation... IMO it is well worth the money to get the warranty just in case something does happen... Hell thats why some pay for insurance ( even though its the law) but if anything happens to the car under insurance your covered.

I was considering getting an extended warranty, but I was informed by the dealer that once I install a Supercharger the warranty would be void. So I saved my coin, and purchased a Supercharger from Excelerate. I figure the chances of my 6spd going crap are rare since I don't drive the car very often, and I am meticulous about maintanence.
Hopefully, my thought is sane. But if you plan a major modifications, check to make sure your extended warranty will cover some or most of the OEM parts. If you are staying with a basic stock set up, and minor mods... I would consider an extended warranty.
I bought an extended warranty for my wifes MDX through Tim @ Honda/Acura World. I believe the website is Hondacuraworld.com. My warranty for my 2004 MDX for 4yrs, 72K was under $2,000.00 if I am not mistaken. If you need more info PM me.

The real question is,, How car savy are you? Can you do basic work on your car if something happens? Do you have access to tools to do all the mid-line work if something goes wrong?
Peace of mind is a very nice thing, but from what I heard, the 6-speed is very reliable and I can't forsee anything going wrong with car that will be worth more than the cost of the warranty. You said it costs $2k for the warranty, that would be like 2 major things going wrong with your car in the next 3 years. if that were to happen, thats just baddddd luck. Don't get the extended warranty and put a $1k of that money away for a car emergency.

Hmm, I am debating this too depending on how long I keep it. I;m at 39k miles now and still have original warranty.
Sure it is a reliable car, but just in the last month I have had a headlight go out, the Navi voice stopped working, the seatbelt retractor wouldn't retract, the hood wouldn't stay up. Everything was fixed under warranty.
Just the headlight repair would have been at least $800, they were gonna replace the Navi and that is about what $2000, but it just needed a new amp, probably $500 or more.
If a window regulator goes out I bet it is at least $600.
sure it's a reliable car but electronics break and are expensive to repair.
I would not keep this car for over 2 years out of warranty without an extended.

The longer you wait in getting an extended warranty thru acura the higher the cost
New vehicle plans (under 6K miles) are cheaper then used vehicle plans. As the mileage get higher and higher, the cost for the used vehicle plan goes up too...
I was thinking about getting a extended warranty from curryacura (one of the dealers with low priced warranties mentioned here if you search) but my 03 CL is too old... Oct 02 in service date with over 50K miles:
http://www.curryacuracare.com/
I'm suprised that the dealership could quote you a price on an ACURA extended warranty for an 03 CLS... I figured that since curry didn't offer, other dealers wouldn't either...
I usually don't like to gamble, but I've been without a warranty since sping of last year...

Is your Acura vehicle currently within 4 years and 50,000 miles of its original in-service date?

I've been pretty lucky w/ my dealership. They have excellent customer service and have never hesitated to give me a loaner when necessary, despite my age. They actually go out of their way to make you feel well taken care of. If it wasn't for that I don't think I'd bother looking into an extended warranty. I wouldn't want to deal with service reps who question every little claim you make.

All extended warranties are the same. I use to work at Best Buy back in the day, and their extended warranty was the number 1 thing that they pushed. When selling computers, they try to scare the crap out of people to make them feel that they "need" the warranty by telling you how much it would cost to fix a potential problem.
The situation with 123456speed is why the price of warranties are so high, they sell 10 warranties at 2K a piece and by spreading out the risk of cars going bad, they are guaranteed to make a profit, because they know out of those 10 warranty cars, only 1 might be over the $2K paid for the warrany and they will lose money. But now the other 9 cars, they might only dibby out 1k in repairs over the time of the extended warranty. Unfortunately, it all comes down to luck and if your car is that "1" that has the unusually high amount of problems.
Once your car is out of warranty, its probably best to familiarize yourself with a local shop mechanic who is familiar with your car and build a relationship. Its always nice to have a person who can give you honest advice and not taking you for a ride.

I think it's better to have one for piece of mind. I got mine through Curryacuracare.
I just got a refund for the unused portion of the warranty since I sold the car with less than 100K.

Unless of course the problem your getting serviced has something to do with the intake system or exhaust system then maybe they will try to pull a fast one.
