I see that a short shifter thread has been resurrected.

Y2K3CL-S - thanks for doing some legwork and talking to the Neuspeed folks. I can guarantee you that a change of 23/100 inch will not help if your shifter set-up is like mine.

Look at the Frankenstein job I had to do to get this sucker to fit. I try not to tell people what I do in real life, but I'll give you a hint, I deal with precision and accuracy on a daily basis. The plate's underside was shaved to that nub in sub-millimeter segments. I was very patient and did a lot of fit attempts and re-shaving. I'll guarantee you that what you see is not a 30 second hack job.

Personally, I'm not buying another Neuspeed product again - for any car. No way. Their customer service should be relabeled 'customer dis-service'. They have yet to contact me about this issue that prompted me to return their shoddy product. If I recall correctly, Armel was the same dude I spoke to and addressed my complaint letter to.

fuzzy - the drilled hole does not effect the stock set-up. Going back is easy - just don't make the mistake I did. Go for a test drive without the shift plate cover on and see if you like the shorter and harder shift throw. If you do, then get your Dremel out and go to town.

This is good advice. I tested the short shift adapter and I personally liked the feel. I decided to keep it so I shaved the shift plate. I didn't have to shave as much as some others on this forum, based on the pictures I've seen posted. So perhaps the part was improved a bit. But it still was not a fit for me out of the box.

It’s looking a lot better watching from the sidelines then actually playing the game.

With my MOMO knob the shift throw is slightly shortened and I have no desire to rip the linkage apart for such a minor difference.
Plus, after nearly two years of driving I’m quite used to the way it works.

i'm with you on this one shawn. glad I cancelled my order...
For now

I ordered mine. Will be in the end of next week, I'll install it next weekend. If I have to trim so be it. You can't expect evey piece of aftermarket crap our cars get to fit perfect. I'd bet Neuspeed just adapted the kit from another app for an Accord, or RSX, or something along those lines, & that is the cause of the triming issue. I'd rather have the older one that had the wee bit shorter through.

IMHO, I don't understand/accept this line of logic. Neuspeed is supposed to be a reputable aftermarket tuner company and is supposed to make quality parts. This is not some $2.99 turbo unit that someone concocted and sold on eBay.

I hope it works well for you. Let Neuspeed know though if you have to trim the shifter plate. At the very least, they should change their FAQ and instructions for this product to highlight its flaw.

so all this talk about a lower knob...

if I have the short shifter and then get a shorter knob will I have even shorter shifts?

YES
Imagine an upside down pyramid with the point facing into the ground.
The closer you get to the lower “point” the shorter the distance across the flat.

fuzzy ... If I recall correctly (and I usually do), Joseph did mention something to me about the history of the SSK, and it effectively was based on another Honda 6-speed application, although I didn't ask him for any specifics. I think this response came from my question as to why they just didn't 'notch' the kit in the offending area to clear the trim ring, and the conversation somehow worked it's way in that direction.

no problem ... I've found it easier to talk directly to the source to get to the bottom truth than to listen to all the speculation that takes place on here .... remember the ICEBOX issue from earlier this year? I was the one who got the non-comittal info from Dean's place (Dean wasn't there at the time) and then spoke directly to COMPTECH to get the current status (it was an April Fool's Day post if I'm not mistaken).

go back and look at Slimeys thread as to why he returned his SSK. I believe he was using a smaller knob at the same time, and some speculated that this may have contributed to his dis-satisfaction with the application and led him to return the unit.

although if you get too short a knob, you better be good in other ways --- otherwise you'll never keep a woman around

I have the Team VooDoo Shift Knob which sits a good bit lower than the stock knob. And now I have the Neuspeed STS. My shifts are very short now. The tradeoff is I have less leverage when shifting, so the shifts feel like they require a bit more effort. This does not bother me; I like the short shifts and am willing to accept the tradeoff. But I can understand how some drivers may not like the tradeoff. I am sure some people prefer the easier movement of the shift lever that the longer throws (hence increased leverage) provide.

shift team voodoo knob do you have? the titanium seems so pricey. I was thinking of getting the other aluminum magnum one and chopping an inch or so off of my shifter and rethreading it.

I have the magnum aluminum. Before you chop the shifter, try the knob by itself. By itself it sits at least an inch lower than the stock knob.

The problems with the short shifter have nothing to do with the knob. I've said it before. The stiff shifts came from the transposition of the shifter cable linkage alone. I tried it out with both my stock knob and the Voodoo knob.

i installed mine over the weekend and -wow- it feels great. i did have to trim though. it almost feels like a new car with the much firmer and crispier shifts. the 2-3 shift is my favorite.

You guys with the 'newer' product should let Neuspeed know that you still have to trim the shift plate cover.

I saw a sig block which indicated you've installed yours ... any comments? either about how it works or especially on whether or not you had to trim like the couple of others who have received the new(er) kit?

man neuspeed isn't bad at all..

I installed it in less than 30 minutes and get this...

NO DREMEL TOOL REQUIRED.

There's no problem with my shift plate popping up at all. It's perfect. I love the short notchy feeling. Next for me is a voodoo knob.

it doesn't move when you shift 3-4 or 4-3? mine didn't pop up either, just moved back and forth during shifting that's why i trimmed it... in either case, it feels great

I got mine yesterday I'll install it tonight. Question...which hole on the bracket gets drilled through. The samller one or the larger one. Why does it have 2 holes if only 1 will be used?

IIRC, One bolt and one peg hold the bracket on, and another hole is for the shifter linkage. Don't you have the instructions?
