'Sho' Stopper....
Well, not much to this story other than a Sho tried to hang with me this morning but to no avail. Run away from him in straight line from 60MPH to about 120MPH by about 2 1/2 to 3 car lengths.

The SHO probably had mods if it was only 3 cars behind at 120. The 1989-1995 SHO had a 3.0L (manual) or 3.2L (auto) DOHC V6 that put out 220hp stock. You can do some pretty cool mods to them like stroke the engine to 3.6L or add a supercharger. Check out http://www.shoshop.com/

or you can just do a 3.0 liter SVO conversion. the 3.0 block and STV contour heads and intake manifold. that should fetch 14's mid to high. i forget the hp figures.

I guess that a kill is a kill but this one dosen't say much for BMW, if your 540 can only outrun a SHO that is worth about $5K tops by 3 to 4 lengths. To me it says a lot more about the SHO and makes me glad that I own two.
Saving Up to buy a 2002 M5 the only car that I would buy other than the SHO

What do you have on your SHOs? I know you can make them some very quick cars. Any specs and/or times on yours?

Let me start off by saying that before The new M5 the car that I wanted to get was the 540 ever since I saw it on the cover of MT or Car & Driver with the needle buried at 157 mph!! . I still have that mag. Both My SHO are basically Stock. The 91 has eibach and tokicos the 95 is stock. I am under no illuisons that this car can beat the 540s' , TYPE'S or the like even with mods. What is great about this car is that it came out in 88 as a 89 model and some 12 yrs later can still sorta hang (a few cars lengths Behind) with the big dogs.
p.s I drove my cousins 91 750IL what a blast!

Or you could get an old M5 that is also quite impressive even against newer cars. One of the M5 owners on our email list had an SHO for a track car just because it was a lot cheaper to run. Great little engine. He just said the build quality was Ford-like.

Doesn't really hold up in comparison to today's generation of sedans like the TL-S, new 6 speed Maxima, etc., but 5-10 years ago, it held it's own well, IMO.
