Shady ass dealerships
wassup everyone,
i was checking the sunday paper, and saw a 01 cl premium with navi advertised at a local dealer for 19,490. It was silver ext./black int., already tinted 30% all around, and had 41093 miles on it. I called them this morning, and they set an appt for me to see the car. Well I just got back from the dealership, and 2 interesting things happened.
On the way there, I had my girlfriend call the dealer and ask how much they were selling the same exact car I was headed over to check out for. I did this to see if they would quote her a different price over the phone then they quoted me, and sure enough, a different salesman picked up, and quoted... 18,000!!!for the same exact car.
by the time she called me back I was already at the dealer, and I was test driving it, so she left me a voicemail. As for the testdrive, the ride was fine, tires had decent tread on it, the leather seats were in decent condition, though you could see some wear in the passenger seat.
I advised the dealer I would be going to my bank tommorow to see about financing, and I had asked for a final price to go to them with, but he could not give one to me. He kept saying hold on, going into his "bosses" office with a folder for roughly 3 - 5 minute intervals, then coming back asking how much could I put down on top of the trade in, etc.
Sounds kinda shady if you ask me. Any one else deal with situations similar to this when they bought there car?

Sounds like every dealership new or used I've been to.
Get a Carfax and double-check KBB.
Some of the less reputable places will base their price on what you have to put down and what kind of trade-in you have.
If you have a posted price you know what they want. Ask for the $18K or whatever the fair price near KBB is.

2 things
The salesman could either be trying to get you to finance through them
or
He thinks he found himself a WHALE and he is going to milk you for every last penny he can get.... you know the more money the dealerships makes on the car, the more money the car salesman makes if it a commission based dealership...
So did you ever leave with a bottom figure for the car?
