Scratch on Navi Screen

I have a scratch on my navi screen. Is there anyway to get rid of it. Can you turn the screen around. I tried opening it up. I thought once I took the 4 bolts off I would be able to open it up and it was so easy and I couldnt open it.

I was thinking the front and back of the screen maybe the same and I just flip it.

What can I do...

Some one help me out... Could the dealer just swap the screen. Is there a plastic layer over the screen that I could pick up a new one at the dealer or somewhere else...

Whats Up Bro,
Sorry to hear that! I have the Navi also, but have no problems with it yet. From my understanding, it should be covered under the factory bumber-to-bumber warranty if you still qualify for it. I also purchased the extended warranty for that reason. The dealer told me that if anything about the car bothers me, to bring it back and they will replace it. I would not mess witht he Navi because if it is damaged it will cost you close to $2000 to replace. Just contact your dealer and tell them that the screen is scratched and its bothering the hell out of you and that it should be replaced under warranty. Well, I hope that helps.

I'm pretty sure you are overly optimistic on what the warranty covers. That's kinda like saying "I have this really bad scratch on my paintjob so the manufacturer should repaint my car under warranty!"

Warranties cover manufacturers defects. If the navi was somehow broken (ie the screen doesn't light up) then the warranty would definitely cover it. But scratches would be considered normal wear and tear.

Yeah i'm in the same boat as you. I have a small scratch that can only be seen when the Navi is off and in the sun. I have a feeling there's nothing really you can do. I highly doubt acura is gonna pony up the cash to fix it.

I have a 03 non-navi and converted it with a 02 navi. So it wouldnt be covered under warranty even if the light went out accidently right..

Right. If it does come with the car, then they will not cover it if it is passed its warranty period.

Well, Im only going buy what MY dealer told me. I made sure with them before I baught the extra warranty what it covers in detail, and sure enough it does cover any minor defect or problems with any equipment in the car......including scratches!

is the screen plastic?
you could try "plexus".
It will take out some scrathes but not all depending on the severity.

Factory equipment or not….
Why the heck would you expect something that was caused by YOUR NEGLIGENCE to be covered by the warranty?
If anything it’s gonna be a “good will” gesture by the dealer.

But I doubt they will do it because they have to turn around and justify the repair to Acura to get paid for the replacement parts.

Not to mention, the screen & unit are essentially one piece...

Which means big $$$...

Good Luck.

P.S. Shawn...that was a good movie...

FWIW ,warranty will not pay for a repair on a vehicle not originally equipped with Navi .The warranty repair is entered by VIN number and the VIN number will tell weither or not the car was equipped with nav or not .In this case you are out of luck as we cannot submit a repair for a part that does not exist on the car as it left the factory .

I have sold cars in the past and let me tell you something about this biz. Don't ever go by what somebody tells you, go by what you have in writing. This advice can also be utilized in all aspects of life.
