S/C CL-S vs. C5 Corvette
I was headed to a job site today around noon. I was on the 270 spur heading from 495 to 270 North. I was stuck behind a van going slow, when I got around him there was nothing but open road for about 2 miles ahead of me. Just as I got around the van a C5 'Vette came up on my left and pulled up next to me. I looked at him and we both began to slow down to about 50mph. We paced each other for a few seconds, then I hear his horn, "honk, honk, honk..." I had the SS in 2nd gear and we took off. Imediately I had 1/2 a car length on him which I kept up until 105 where I shut it down. I rolled down my window and he did the same. He said he was automatic and stock, I said I had a few bolt-ons.
and he took the next exit. The temp at the time of the race was 42 according to the dashboard thermometer. The blower loves the cold air!
C5 vette!

I wish i had some too!!...anyone want to hook me up w/a CTS???? come on....im good for it......
hmmm, and then you woke up maybe???
a stock C5 will have more than 100 ft lbs more torque than you do, as well as 50 or more whp, this doesnt seem right at all....even with your supercharger (which even with the HBP, doesnt give much boost) most supercharged CL-S dynos show what, about 275 at the wheels??? thats significantly less than a stock C5 shows at the wheels, and the C5 is much more aerodynamic, a tad lighter, much better tires, RWD....i just dont see how this is possible

Hmmm... And then maybe you realized you don't know what you are talking about?
My car made 295 whp on the dyno in 70 degree temps.
It was 50 degrees temps (like yesterday) I ran a 13.44 @ 108 at the track. A manual shifted C5 will run 13.1 @ 105-107 MPH. His auto probably would be in the 104-106 range. A C5 makes 350 crank horsepower... I make 400 crank horsepower at the 70 degrees I dyno'd in. Being that the run was from 50-105 I was in VTEC the entire run. I never said I beat the guy. I got the jump on him by 1/2 length (my door at his front bumper) and it stayed that way until I shut it down.
Also tires and RWD have nothing to do with racing from a roll you dolt.

Auto Corvette is just fine IMO, especially if you can grab a used one at a good price. They have enough torque that you just smash the gas and go, no need to row the gear box to get it moving.

'97 is the first year of the C5. I can't really tell the difference between the years but his had paper tags on it, but it was used he said.

Nice kill and very believable. My brother has a C5 and on my way to take him to the airport the other morning we were behind a Mustang Cobra who floored it in traffic from 50-110 and i was on his butt the entire time
It was obvious to both my brother and i that he was trying to lose me but couldn't.

your the ones that needs to wake up jimbo
steve has trapped 108, he can prolly still take the vette from a stop, even though the vette might have more trq the cl-s has alot better gearing, vette w/ 4.10's is
though

NOT
to the response of A4's suck from 50. umm no, 50 is a badass roll territory for an LS1 Vette. 2nd gear. remember they have torque to pull them out of low rpm's. and the fact that LS1's have insane top end. just a good thing you didn't go above 105 or that LS1 would have put a beating on you.....but never the less GOOD KILL...

It's possible, C5 auto's are about a mid 13 second car bone stock

It's amazing how well an A4 w/ 3.42's will pull from 110-150ish
It just keeps pulling STRONG. The 4L60E is one of the best auto trannies out there IMO.

However, I dont believe that even AUTO vettes go as high as 13.8
An LS1 In a corvettte (manual or automatic) should be considered a low-mid 13 second car.
Good Race. Usually guys in vette's are real tool bags when they lose.

From a stop I would have been owned, probably. But I trap 105-108 MPH and most often that should be good for a 12 second pass in most RWD cars. I can't launch that hard without serious wheel hop.
Got new tires yesterday though so we'll see.

very nice
