Runner torque specs
Looking for some quick help from anyone with a manual. Need the torque specs for the runners to the heads. Thanks!
|
I have alldatadiy & can't find the runners to the head but intake manifold to runners is 16 ft/lbs..
Hope that helps.. |
Runners are usually grouped under the "injectors" headings. I have a vacuum leak somewhere after putting in my gasket matched runners
|
In the manual it says it in the engine section under sub category ( intake manifold and exhaust system on page 9-2 )
16 ft lbs is the recommended amount. This is for the bolts and a couple nuts that secure the manifold to the runners. The same tq spec is used for the throttle body as well The manifold top plate tq spec is 8.7 ft lbs The plenums tq spec is 8.7 ft lbs. Hopefully that does it bud |
Thanks guys, I'm just going to go over the runner bolts and see what happens tomorrow. It sucks getting it all buttoned up and the revs start bouncing.

What gasket are u running between manifold and runners? Ive had really good results with the p2r thermal gaskets.
And what work were u doing by the way? If u still have a leak after I'd pull the manifold and runners and check to ensure everything is dead square so u know for certain then the issue must be a hose. How far from Mississauga do u live? I'd like to help find that sucker |
I gasket matched and did a small port on the runners and manifold. I used a P2R gasket. I'm in Hamilton. I have a feeling it's the runners on the heads. all hoses are on and it's not the iacv.

Found the problem. I just happened to see a tiny o ring on the ground in front of my car. I knew it was likely from an injector. Found this in the rear:
Attachment 80021 I took the runners back off and looked inside the head and didn't see any fragments. Going to order a new injector and pray. |
I have some spare injectors if you want
|
That would be amazing! Pm'ing you...

Thanks to tehCL for the injectors! Finally have the car running right. Had a vacuum leak at the heads/runners. Fixed that. New injector in and smelled a lot of gas. Found another ripped oring....the one that sits inside the fuel rail:
Attachment 79474 Now it's back! What an ordeal. |
crazy gnuts!
since, I have my car torn apart, my friend asked to borrow my injectors for like 2 weeks. he was trying to chase down a leak at the runners/heads and he saw some injector o-rings ripped. he used mine for two weeks but no change. he determined his injectors were still good, even tho the o-rings look messed up. im just rambling now. I wonder how they get chewed up like that? |
I realized you have to be very careful with the injectors when you put then back in. that other oring must have already been ripped but I didn't see it.
I probably took the car apart down to the heads 5 times. is your friend leaking fuel? |
Nice going gnuts

Here's a before/after: Attachment 79432 Attachment 79433 Attachment 79434 Now to gasket match my other manifold and runners. |
i hope you dont mind, I thought I'd share since I'm doing something similar at the moment.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t...-no/14%2B-%2B1 gasket matching injector runners. I picked up J37a1 heads and these runners have to accompany them. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-D...-no/14%2B-%2B1 installed. I did timing belt this morning https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_...-no/14%2B-%2B1 |
Nice work. Are the heads gasket matched?
|
^no. It was supposed to be a straight swap.
but I kept running into snags. so, while waiting, decided to gasket match the runners and intake manifold. the heads, I spent so much time swapping the valve spring rails over, and I didnt want to mess with cleaning them after shaving the metal... again, supposed to be done in like 2 weeks turned into like a month. my next steps are: -adjust valves. - paint valve covers. - install valve covers. - install spark plugs - put everything back together hoping I dont have any extra bolts left over. - coolant and oil change |
I heard you're not supposed to match the base unless the heads are done. Not sure what difference it would make.
What differences are there with those heads over your old ones? |
^uhhh oh. lol too late now. i shaved off very minimal on the base any way.
the new heads have better flow, weighs less, and have better cooling properties. using 3.2 short block with 3.5 type-s cams inside the 3.7 heads. I'm expecting a good amount of power throughout the tach |
For sure! You going to hit the dyno after? You have a before dyno don't you?
