A run in with an IS300 and 328i

The time has finally come for me to race one of these puppies. I'e been anxiously trying to get one to race w/ me, but so far no luck; that is until tonight. I'm not gonna make this a long story like my other ones. Basically, this one dood is playin w/ me on my way home and I know he wants to go. He starts revvin at a red light when he's behind me, so I for sure know he wants to run at this point. I take off w/ slight acceleration, and widen the gap to the car next to me so he can get by. Out of nowhere, some dood in a '95 model 328 coupe is in my next lane and is about to fly by me. I catch this with him about a car length back and I drop it in 2nd and gun it. Within about 2-3 seconds I'd say I caught up to him. Next thing I know I'm at about 80 and he's become a figment of my imagination; no where to be seen. I dusted this guy like unbelievable. Finally the IS300 catches up and he passes by me and heads on to the freeway. I follow him and we get next to each other. Now to make the long story short, we make about 3 runs on the hwy with no one around us, all from between 75-85mph. Same result each time. By the time I hit about 100-105 I was about 3 car lengths ahead and walking him like a mad-man. If I kept taking it to the end of third the gap would have been a good bit more. We get next to each other and we each give one another a thumbs up. We then proceed to get off at the next exit and chat for like 15 min. The guy was really fucking cool, so it made my night, since it was the first time I've ever ran a cool guy. He has an '01 IS300 w/ AEM intake and he is auto btw. Just thought I'd share

`John

Sweet kill...those IS300's are annoying. Im surprised you didnt smoke him big time with the mods you have. The autos are slower than my TLP I do believe.

yeah, I hear you on that...by the way he was talking, he said he has raced a couple CL-S stock on the hwy and "smoked" them everytime, including the rsx-s. Maybe he has a factory freak It was funny though, cause when we got out of our cars, he was like "god damn man your shit was fast".

BTW, my car length distances may be off. All I know is that I walked him hard the entire way, and when I looked back, it seemed as though he was a good 40-50 feet or so back. I ve got no idea how long our car is so you do the math.

yeah, the part where he said that he "smoked" them threw me off guard. Now I know stock for stock, this race is purely a drivers race. I've heard of some IS300's beating stock CL-S, but by like a car length at max. And in my book, that isn't "smoking" a car.

Meh...

I have a 3.0CL and I beat my boys IS300 time after time, so
I don't see what's to brag about.
Come on, you have a CL-S.

Comparo:

CL-S = 260hp
IS300 = 215hp

*Also look at quarter mile times of both cars, theres about a second difference.

This is obviously no contest. Try racing a V6 Honda Accord 6speed, this would be a real good race.

um buddy...wheres the bragging at? So because I post in here, that means I'm bragging? I can't share a story? The point of my little post was actually to say that I finally came across a cool guy whom I had raced. Point out somewhere in my post where I was bragging, please. Oh and, congrats on your wins as well

Oh and, btw, I've seen some 15.0 passes for a few IS300's and a few 'deaths' on this board as well to other IS300's stock. Plus, it weighs 3,270lbs, which is nearly 300lbs less than our car, and is RWD. Don't dogg on the IS300, it's a nice ride.

Dem, I wish you would see what I am saying....the autos are slow, the manuals are fast. big difference between the two. I think your story was cool and it good that the guy was cool also, but I find his story hard to believe that he beat the cars he said he did.

oh no, ou sig, I totally understand what you're saying, lol. When I said:

yeah, the part where he said that he "smoked" them threw me off guard. Now I know stock for stock, this race is purely a drivers race. I've heard of some IS300's beating stock CL-S, but by like a car length at max. And in my book, that isn't "smoking" a car.
I was basically saying that I don't see how he could have possibly "smoked" a stock CL-S. I could see him saying that he edged one out, or that it was a damn close race, but even if he were stick they can't "smoke" our car. So I was agreeing with you. As for my last post, I was talking to Divine CL. Oh and by no means was he slow. This race was similar to that of my race w/ an Altima 3.5SE. As I mentioned beofre, perhaps he has a 'factory freak'?

CL-S auto goes 14.7-8 1/4mile
CL-S manual goes 14.5 1/4 mile

IS300 manual 15.4 1/4 mile
IS300 auto 15.6 1/4 mile

dont see how he could smoke a CL-S.........

unless CL-s was a bad driver or wasnt really racing

the IS300's can't have a CAI unless you do custom work on the metal thing

there is no access to go into the "cold air" section, like the CL's.

When IS's turbo, they have to do custom work in order to fit intercooler piping
