i got the 4.6 capacity from my owners manual, if the vtec was working before and now it isnt then the oil level would be my first guess

check the dipstick after 2min of running the motor. usually 4.5qt is enough

Probably Royal Purple is too smooth, you didnt even feel that boost from the engine.

Did you even warm your engine up when checking the oil level?

UMM, I PUT A LITTLE OVER 4.5 QUARTS IN, THEN TURNED IT ON AND RAN IT FOR A SECOND, THEN CHECKED IT AND IT WAS BARELY ON THE LOWER MARK. SO I PUT IN SOME MOR UNTIL IT WAS UP TO THE TOP MARK ON THE DIPSTICK. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT MIGHT BE THE SMOOTHNESS OF ROYAL PURPLE THAT I DONT FEEL VTEC..NAAAAH

been using royal purple for years on the CL-S, no issues. also 4.6 is correct, but i use 5qt.

no vtec is an oil pressure problem. too much or too little can mess with the oil pressure.

Not to be a dick...but...you're talking about a 13 second car and you don't know how to change your own oil? I mean a minor fuck up or lapse in concentration when working on a car (or anything for that matter) is normal but damn...

Just drain it into a gallon jug, well a pan and then into the jug and see how much you have, and then put in a little over 4-4.5qts in the engine and about .25qt. in the oil filter, give or take, you basically want around 4.5 total.

... my car when low on oil would fuel cut at 4800 like if you hit the rev limiter and ultimately will throw a code , im curious as to if you reall have a bad IMRC and thats ur loss of power ? know how to check that ?

thats definitely his engine running in limp mode.. has something to do with the management. reset your computer by removing the positive terminal for 15 minutes, install your oil TO THE CORRECT LEVEL!! and restart your car (after plugging in the battery) and let us know if it works..

i dont know how 2 check that.
Thanks to all the replies. Yes it is muggy and hot right now, which would affect performance, but mine isnt from that cause at night it still runs slow.Maybe my plugs are bad from running straight exhaust?..dunno..lmk on the imrc..thanks

You can check your plugs but bad plugs wont cause the problem you have.
Straight exhaust doesn't effect your spark plugs if anything your car will run a little leaner and it won't get that crud on them from a car running rich. Thats kind of simplifying it of course but you get the idea.

I've used 5-30 before with no problems.

So what have you done so far on the car, as far as checking it out?

I usually deal with 99-00 SI's but vtec is all the same.

Is your speedo and rpm gauge working

is your oil at correct level

do you have any CELs

I'd do another oil change back to stock 5-30w and oil filter just to cover the bases. you'll just have to start knocking out posibilities.
