No, didn't ask them,

since the honda v6 guys are putting the cls cams and heads onto their blocks, and since the j35 blok is basically the same as the j32, soooo, just doing some research on the new rl camshafts and if the potential is there to fit there cams to our heads if the fitment is the same and of course if the lift and duration is a little higher than ours. Just a thought for my project.

How come when I asked this question about 05 RL cams, heads and pistons a month or more ago people responded to me like I was speaking a foreign language?

Hmmmmmm.

You need to find Acura mechanics who might measure it for you to be sure if there is better lift and duration.

Originally, with 6th gen. AV6 (98-02) J30A1 we tried to fit J30A4 (03+ AV6) due to even higher lift then J32A2, however sizing was different and we chose J32A2 as direct swap

when you say sizing, what do yo mean, the physical diminsions of the cam? I will have some specs soon to share with everyone on this for those who care.

quote from honda news the lift and duration is unique to the RL more interesting is this dual stag exhaust system

I suspect without seeing the RL engine, that the head has the exhaust manifold cast into the head like the TL. I have a RL cam being shipped as we speak to compare it to the CL Cam. I'm not buying this cam, I have a line to "borrow parts" from time to time for comparision purposes. I'll keep everyone posted for those who care.

Hey TypeR... I'll be in New Port Richey over the christmas holiday to visit family, wanna hook up for a brew and talk shop?

interesting thread... i've been planning to do a 3.5 block very soon and if we can get parts for the new RL i would def go that way instead of the MDX block...

here's something to keep in mind about using the rl block...i haven't seen it so i can't confim this concern, but in tha past honda has made block that are of the smae series but very very different from each other. for example the c32 out of the legend is almost completely different from the other c series motor even the c27 out of the earlier legend. honda did this again with the prelude and the prelude sh.....at least externally....I'm wondering if the block for the new awd rl isn't different in the same fasion...if it is it could mean that the non awd trannies might not bolt onto the awd block, or that it might bolt up, but the block may not be properly equiped to bolt an intermediat shaft to it...I'm not wanting to discourage you, just something to keep in mind.

I have a C32A in my TL, the NSX's engine is a C32B... you'd think it would be a simple swap. WRONG, they're actually vastly different.

As for the J35 in the new RL, that would be one heckuva mod with some great results assuming its compatible.

As for the dual stage exhaust.. thats nothing new. The C32 and C35 motors all have variable intake and variable exhaust

Yep, for some reason Honda decided to change the length of the sprocket side... so they don't fit meaning J30A4 shorter then J30A1, thus J32A2 worked great.

I'm not using the RL block and do not have any desire to do so. I will be using the 01-02 mdx 3.5 block. (pics coming soon on that effort) I've just been wondering what the lift of the RL cam is, and if it's the same in physical diminsions as the cls cam, that's all.

if my understanding of the dual stage exhaust is correct, it's nothing more than (cough, cough) like a muffler valve. Don't know where it is on the RL, but the theory is to close off the exhaust flow to increase bottom end torque. it's either in the exhaust manifold or the muffler, but i doubt this car has it in the muff.

honestly there's no reason to change the block at all...just the internals the CLS is better in terms of sheding heat through its spin cast liners along with other small varinaces internally...just buy the new RL rods pistons and crank ...cake

i weigh'd that idea, but decide to go with the complete short block because the price worked out about the same. there were also some differences on the crank between the 01-02 3.5 and the 03-04 3.5 as well as some differences on the block itself. and then when all is done, i'll have a 3.2 cls shortblock for sale with very low miles. pics will be coming soon with some comparision photo's and the t-sleeves that AEBS installed on the 3.5.
