There is a chip in the key that you need to start. The key cost about $25 for uncut and program key.

The vehicle has a factory anti-theft device which requires the key to be in the ignition for it to start. It knows that the key is in their because their is a microchip which transmits signal from the key to the ignition. Therefore you need an extra key, preferably uncut, because the device which is used to transmit the signal, will house the key, in a box inside the steering column, if it were found, and it was cut to your car, the theif would just have to stick it in the ignition and turn it if it was cut.
