Well either way I think that if you just ad fuel before it kicks in most people should be fine, I think the issue was people were trying to get around this at first with the Comptech FPR and ESM.

I should be having the car done by early next week, but I won't be able to tune until the weekend. Should I be alright if I leave the IMRC connected till then? (Obviously no mashing!) Should I invest in a KnockLink?

Hey all,

I'm new here, so forgive my "n00bness". I'm not green to tuning supercharged / turbocharged engines, however. What's wrong with the Comptech provided tuner? I seen posts with people referring to other ECU tuners as a solution. Does this imply that the Comptech provided ECU tuner can't help the ECU find stoich (adjusted fuel/spark tables) at part throttle settings? Shouldn't you be able to add fuel on the WOT table to compensate for the lean spot, and pull timing for the increased boost?

Also, does the Comptech kit have a inlet charge cooler?

what about disconnecting the imrc and removing the plate inside the plenum and tuning it like that? seems that you could tune it with more air all the time.

I have been wondering about that too. Seems like it would just hurt the low end. I wonder how much?

Let me think about it, here are my thoughts on it:

Removing the plates would hurt the low end of the car a good amount, there are times when you are off boost and the plates closed would help out the NA portion of the powerband. Otherwise if we're talking about on boost power with no plates at low performance it would stand to reason that the boost levels would go down a slight bit be of the extra volume the blower must fill, similar to when you go from a 3.0 to a 3.2 or 3.2 to 3.5 and the boost goes down since it needs to fill the cylinders more and thus the same occupies more volume now. If you tune for the extra volume you might see some gains since the air charge will be cooler from being less compacted and the slight reduction in boost stacking. It seems that the you wouldn't lose much power since the SC is spinning at the same speed (unlike changing the ratios with a crank pulley and reducing boost in this manner).

I noticed that on some of the SCed J30A4 dynos that when IMRC engages the boost actually rises, going to have to think about this one some more.

i think removing the plates and dynoing then is the best way to do it. i cant dyno any time soon because im p&p the plenum and runners.

Well its relatively well understood that they did it to up the volume of the intake to increase the intake charge when velcoity becomes less important for low/mid range power and the need for mid/high power dictates more air regardless of the intake air velocity.

Thing is this still applies when your supercharged and off boost when the bypass valve is bypassing the supercharger due to high vacuum (low throttle opening).

Question is what difference is made with the change in volume while under boost.

Comptech uses a rising rate FPR to increase fuel to the motor. The kit doesn't really have a refined "tuner" in the kit. There are a couple of spots that are problematic that can be worked around through higher base fuel pressure or other tuning methods that allow you to add additional fuel at a couple of areas in the MAP.

Unfortunately, there is not a readily available inlet charge cooler. Scalbert custom made 5 aftercoolers that have been owned and resold on these boards but that's it.

not since last. im p&p the plenum and runners and going to get the king tb next. car is all torn apart right now. and went with a different setup. last setup was not for everyday driving. and im redoing the whole fuel side of things

can some one clearify to me which is the HBP? the smaller or bigger pulley?
and the IMRC i'm suppose to disconnect is right in the rear of the back plenium in the middle just under the strut bar of the manifold?

HBP = 3.275"
Standard = 3.0"
