no not ricey, but i think you need a brake upgrade to make them look proper. Black would be cool, i'm thiking of doing the same. Black would look good on your silver IMO

No, It will not look rice. I used to drive a 1990 pontiac bonneville and I painted the calipers/drums RED with the Plasti-coat paint they sell at the automotive shop. Clearvcoated it and it looked great. Even matched the off-red color I had.

I WILL be painting my calipers cherry red on my new type-s just as soon as I can!!!!!!!!!

Putting paint on calipers adds an insulating layer of resin on top of the already anodization-protected parts. It hurts heat dissipation a bit, and so contributes a bit to fluid fade. Being a step backward in performance, it is "rice".

Stripping the bland stock anodization and re-anodizing with your favorite color is better than painting, but's a lot of money and effort for just looks, kind of like vinyl graphics and/or racing stripes.

If you guys look closely at the Brembos, AP's, Baers, etc. on proper race cars, you'll see that the vast majority are anodized in a dark color to facilitate heat dissipation.

Painted calipers are sweet if done in Red... or a neutral color like Black or Silver.

Painted drums are rice.

And I dont agree at all with DtEW's statement...

Paint will not insulate at all... paint conducts heat just as well as if it wasnt there.

Powder Coating may hurt heat dissipation since a benefit of Powder Coating is to keep heat out (like on CAIs)... so it may keep heat in on calipers.

But I really dont think that paint will do that.

I would like to see some solid research sayin yay or nay on that issue... I have a feeling DtEW's statement is not much more then a wild guess.

Either way... go for it... anything is better then the pitted aluminum crap we have for calipers.

How about painting them to match the body color? Rice or not?

My CL is Emerald green, I think that green would look good!

You really need some rims with a lot of open space so you can see your fancy painted calipers!

Not ricy at all, I've seen them on a M class AMG and it looks tight. I was actually thinking about it since it will match the S badge and the brake lights.

I think body color calipers are nice...

Very ricey. Why don't you put some of those Japanese writing stickers on your car while you are at it. An AMG might have paited calipers, but that is ok because it came that way, not because some clown painted them himself. But to each his own. If that is what you want, knock yourself out.

What kind of paint and clearcoat to use? Do you have to take the brakes apart or can you just masking tape em up and spray away?

Thanks.

The most popular paint for calipers is made by Foliatec.
Foliatec Caliper Paint

You can really use any heavy-duty high temp paint though.

You can either brush it or spray it on.

You can take off your calipers for a super clean job... or try and mask everything.

But make sure you clay your car afterwards if you spray anywhere near it... cuz its prolly pretty likely youll get some overspray on your baby

Heres some caliper spraying info:
