Recommended cleaning interval for CAI K&N filter?
Does anyone have any recommended cleaning procedures, and intervals for the K & N cone filter that comes with the AEM Cold Air intake?
I've had K & N drop in filters before, but wasn't sure if the procedures were the same for the K & N cone filter (basically spray the fiter cleaner, spray water, let dry, then spray oil). Generally i've heard multiple things before on the cleaning intervals (30k, 50k, and 100k [I have never ever followed the 100k crap, just a little hard to believe]), and then i've also heard that is is detrimental forefficiency of the filter if you clean it too soon, etc.)
So surprised that no one has asked this question yet, but than again I don't think many are knocking on the door of 50k either

I've been cleaning mine about every 7,500 to 10,000mi, more often in wet weather. I think it makes a huge difference (though I have the xephyr [R.I.P.] CAI). I also frequently clean out the drain holes in the splash guards because they're usually totally clogged with mud and road debris, which I imagine only sloshes up onto the filter (again with the X-CAI setup) during wet weather.

When in doubt, just clean the sucker...
IMO, that mileage K&N quotes is fine if you drive in a "clean room"...
Some of the AEM CAIs would sit too near the splashguard and this didn't help performance. So, it can't be great to have crud stuck in the pleats!

Ummm...
Hey Armadillos don't have fur do they??
OK i feel like a complete dumbass here, but I have never, ever, ever cleaned the CAI out since it has been installed (probably been at least a year now ).
How can you all clean the filter that often?? I'm having nightmares about getting to the damned thing just once to clean it, so I can't imagine doing it every 10k
Anyone care to write up an FAQ on howto 'Easily' remove the splashguard and crap to gain access to the filter?? I think there would be alot of people, highly appreciative on the board for that
I was going to clean the filter today, but it would have taken longer to do then I was thinking (at least 4 hours to have the filter air dry, plus however long it would take me to scrape, and cut my knuckles trying to remove it and reinstall it).
