rear view mirror removal
#2
This requires a bit of finesse ,start by opening the sunglass holder .You will see two screws remove them .Next using a small screwdriver pop out the plastic lenses in the overhead light .There are two more screws remove those as well .The overhead console will now drop down .Unplug it and set it aside .You will now see a small electrical connector that has wiring going to the rear view mirror .Unplug this at this time .Next you need to pry of the small plastic cover on the foot of the mirror where it is attached to the winshield .Now you will need a long thin punch and a small hammer (yes I am serious) .You need to place the long thin punch on the now exposed part of the mirror foot ,there is a notch there that you can use for this .You can also use a long flat blade screwdriver for this .Now using the hammer and the punch (or screwdriver) you have to tap the mirror so that it slides off the base on the glass .You must tap the mirror forward (towards front of the car) .The mirror will eventually slide of it's base on the glass .Once it pops of the base you can thread the wiring out from behind the headliner and it is out .Reassmebli is the the reverse of what you just went through to get it out except obviously you must tap the foot of the mirror towards the rear of the car using the punch (or screwdriver) .Use a lot of caution to do this I don't need to tell you that a mistake here will cost you a windshield. It does not take large amounts of force to do this it just requires a bit of finesse and some patience .

and I made the mistake thinking it was such an easy task..
Honestly.. leave it alone unless it is broke and needs fixed...
P.S. Steve, give me some time to find that schematic on the O2 sensor.. It seems I misplaced the WEB page... I will draw it up and e-mail it ASAP.

So anyways, I had the windshield replaced about 2 years ago...
took the car out the other day (NEVER touch my rearview)... and the damn rearview is bouncing like crazy.....
did this ever happen to anyone else....and did the rearview need replaced or what?

okay.. update...
the base was not tight.... I found out today that it is made of POT METAL...
Fix:
Clear silcone caulking.... put some on the pot metal and put the mirror back on.. then added a little more for extra strength... then snapped the plastic pieces back on
See, pot metal sucks... if you move it too many times, it losses it rigidity and will become lose... so the silicone should do the trick.
I liked the old mirrors that had the screw... nice and easy.. but we have a break-away mirror on our cars... so if I get into an accident it should still pop off the windshield without being impelled into me or my passanger...
