Rear view mirror no longer dimming headlights

I have an 01 CL and the rear view mirror is no longer dimming the headlights from the cars behind me. It now has a "spot" where headlights are dimmed, but the rest of the mirror does not dim anything. It looks like it has a film of some sort, a tint perhaps? I'm not sure how the mirror dims headlights in the first place. Has anyone else had this problem? Is my mirror done or can it be repaired? Any experience on how much it costs to replace or repair? Any insight you can give me will help Thanks.

yeah, common problem. Get it replaced under warranty if you can. Otherwise do a search, you might be able to contact the manufacture and get it for free.

if still under warranty, it'll be replaced. there is some kind of liquid in it...you may notice that it looks like there's water in there. some people have experienced it oozing or leaking out and dripping onto the shifter and the liquid causes it to stain.

do a search on "mirror" or "auto dim"...

But this is such a common problem that the dealer really should replace it even if you are out of warranty.

Also I see your in Carrollton, Tx

See this thread for a meet in the Addison area this weekend.

I may be making the trip over for it

Chopper:

Thanks for the website, I called the dealer in plano (david macdavid acura i think) and they said it is in fact out of warrenty and they will NOT cover it. It should total around $150 to get it replace. It's not worth $150 to me but it sure is around $100 (on acura automotive website). I just have to find a time to get it done. I'm sorry I won't be able to make it this weekend to your Addison area meet. I have sold my soul to my company and will be out of the state but I am VERY interested in the future meets.

Car_lost:

I will try and contact the manufacturer of the mirror. By any chance do you know who manufactures the mirror?

go over to acura-tl.com and look in the first and 2nd page under the 2nd gen section. there is a thread there about it.

No prob bro. I actually bought my CLS from David Mcdavid of Austin, and wasn't exactly please with the experience.
I hear ya about the job deal, maybe another time. Well if you want updates on meets, check out the Meet and Greet forum on here, and look for the "dallas area meets" thread, which is the largest continuing running thread on this site. Good luck.

how many miles on the car...if under 50k they should replace it for free. When I bought my car it was not dimming anymore...and it had like 36k miles on it and it was under warranty. These acura dealers need to start to get on the same page and follow the same guidelines or something, it seems like each do whatever they feel like and it doesnt give acura a good name. I know each is privately owned but still if u carry the name........
