rear view mirror broke off!

alright so im cleaning the inside of my car yesterday, i windex the rear view and HARDLY! touched it when i was wiping the windex off, and the entire rearview mirror fell off! now im no hulk so i dunno what the hell is going on. When i say the entire thing fell off im talking about mirror, bracket still attached to the mirror, and parts of the glass still attached to the bracket, leaving a square cut out in the actual windshield itself.

i bought some rear view adhesive (little tube looks like super glue) but i was wondering if i should chip off the glass thats still attached to the bracket? or just try to put the mirror back to exactly where it was by aligning the glass thats still left on the bracket to the new square cut out in my windshield hahaha.

*mods if u could please leave this in the main section for a bit, it would be greatly appreciated, problems and fixes section has 2 members and 4 guests browsing compared to 27 members browsing this section, im looking for a quick answer so i can fix this today. thanks.

You might try to use that stuff that fixes chips in windsheilds, kinda like super glue. I'm not sure that it will hold with weight on it though, but it might bond the glass together. Thats fucking crazy that it took glass with it! Got any pics?

It's attached to the glass? I thought it was attached to the headliner with bolts?

ordering a new what? if i get a new mirror i'd still have the missing glass in my windshield, might as well just pick out the glass and glue the bitch back on hahah

i was PISSED when it fell off, but now i find it funny, whatever, i ended up taking off my bumper and blacking out my headlights to make myself feel better, hopefully nothing fucks up with that.

Am i the only one who would want to replace the windshield in this situation? I wouldn't want that much glass missing from the windshield where the mirror goes.

Glass should be covered with your insurance. I'd go that route.

Same shit happened to me a year ago! I removed the bracket from the back of the mirror, lined up the glass on the back with the windshield & super glued that bish back on! Waited a day, then reattached my mirror to the bracket. Been fine ever since!

I thought about it, but then i looked at the picture and its not that bad. its really the OP's call. replace the windshield and see if the insurance will pay or just glue it back.

most insurance companies do free glass w/o making you pay a deductible. I would go that route considering it only takes em like an hour to change it and they will put the mirror back on for you.

LMAO........not a problem bro! I was pretty baffled at what to do myself, but I noticed that the glass broke in the exact same shape as the whole in the windshield! Just dont remount your mirror until a day or so after.....and be gentle while remounting it!
