The real answers to wheel fitment and offset
I've done the search on wheel fitment and offset and had a hard time finding the answers I'm looking for.
I'm ready to buy wheels, staying stock at 17" but I have questions concerning offset.
First, what is the width of stock CLS wheels, 7 or 7.5?
Second, what is the offset of a CLS stock wheel?
If I buy a wheel that is 17 x 7 with a 48 offset, will it stick out further than my stock set-up or less?
Basically, I want to have the wheels look the way they do stock from a stance standpoint. I could live with a slightly wider profile but not too much.
So, what offset in a 17 x 7 or 17 x 7.5 would I need to stay close to the stock profile I have now.
I have Comptech springs as well.
Thanks!

Stock CLS rims are 17X7
Stock offset for CLS rims are +55
You can use offsets from +42 - +55
If you got a 17X7 rims with a +48 the rim will stick out just slightly. The lower you go the father it sticks out.
For comparison I have 17X8 +48 & the rim looks almost stock as far as stance goes.

hmmm, what they say above is the most ideal. However, i bought 18x7.5 rims with +42 offset, dropped on H&R Sports and i have no rubbing issues whatsoever...even with 4 ppl in the car...
This thread here should help you out...ppl list type of rim/ type of drop/ offset and rubbing issues....

ok so looking at the thread from A-TL plus other info here...
2.75" Drop on GroundControl Coils with stock rims dont rub a bit
New Rims:
18" x 7.5 +48 or +50 offset would put me at stock stance most likely still not rubbing is this correct?

Wheel calculator link and some info...
Ideal fitment for a 17x7.5 is around +51 to +52.
Warning red area == math crud
Just start with the stock wheel width of 7". Subtract this from the new wheel width of 7.5", then divide by 2.
(7.5 - 7.0)/2 = 0.5 / 2 = .25"
The wheel would stick out 1/4" more if the offset was identical to the original wheel. (The inside would also "stick-in" by the same 1/4" distance IF the offset wasn't changed from stock.)
Convert to mm: 25.4mm/in * 0.25in = 6.35 mm
Stock rim is +55. To move the rim inward, a higher offset is needed.
+55 + 6.35 = +61.35.
So, if you want the outside to line up perfectly when you move to a 7.5" rim, you would want to have an offset of +61.
Forget about finding or making a rim with this offset. You really want to keep the center track near the stock value, and that's related to offset. IOW, you want to stay as close as you can to +55 without rubbing.
The +42 is not a very good chose for you (you did want something that didn't stick out far). The 7.5 x +42 will stick out about 3/4s of an inch.
HRE recommended at +51 - +52 offset as the "perfect" offset for a set of custom 3-piece wheels. The 17 x 7.5 worked perfectly with 235/45-17 on a Comptech lowered car. No rubbing ever.
If you want an easy way to figure out what is going on, just use the following link and use 7 and +55 for the current wheel width and current wheel offset.

I'm guessing it depends on tires, huh?
Thanks.

And, if you're lowered, I think you would be looking at potential rub problems. (I know someone will come along and tell you they aren't rubbing ... YMMV)
