When you watch rally cars video clips the tranny shifter is mounted way-up , it looks like the one in the new Civic Si, and it seems that there is no clutch ( I could be wrong ).

Why we do not see this arrangement on road cars SMG shifter and mouuned high?

it is put up high, so the driver only has to move his had a few inches, in a real car its not practicle, it covers up the entire center dash.
