radius rod nut question

I jist replaced the bushings for my radius rods. Question is how far down are you supposed to thread the nut? It doesn't seem to get tight no matter how far I keep turning it. I believe it's only 40 something ftlb but I'm not sure how far the threads are supposed to stick out. Any information is greatly appreciated.

When I did mine in the summer of 2011, I just kept tightening until I reached the 40lbf.ft on the torque wrench. I believe I used a deep socket and then a crows foot to tighten it down all the way. :dunno: If possible, the manual states to replace the self-locking nut.

Yeah I replaced it. So the threads were sticking out pretty far after it finally hit 40?

Yeah, think of it this way. The nut (#25), on the link below, will bottom out on the radius rod washer (#15) as it sandwiches down to the end of the threads on the radius rod. My guess is, some where between there you get to 40lbf.ft. and you are good to go.

Just a thought, you do have the radius rod connected at the knuckle as you clamp down on the RR self-locking nut? If not, then the radius rod would spin as a result of tightening the RR nut.

Yeah the rod is tightend down.I'll have to get a tq wrench. I have it on there no so far now. I definitely need to thread it on some more. I was just worried I was going to over tighten.

you cant over tighten it. It will bottom out on the metal sleeve insert then you will tq to 40

tighten it again after a year and you might get 1 full turn
