Radar detector saved my a$$
Went up to Tulsa this weekend and I'm flying at about 90mph. I get near the top of a hill, and my radar detector starts screaming. I slow to 70mph and right on the other side is a smokey sitting in his car waiting for a speeder. I just smiled as I passed him. That could have made my weekend suck big time.

sounds good. has anyone compared the Viper with a V1? the V1 is so expensive, and if something like a Viper is just as good for less, then i may change my mind.

V1 is false alert central
Its a good AND a bad thing... super sensitvity is great for the highway. But tons of false alarms.

NOTHING matches the V1-check the auto mags' objective findings. I swear by mine and have had it 3 years with no tix and I drive consistently at 80 on the highways. Besides, if price is a concern, figure how much your insurance goes up or the cost of the ticket into the equation should you get a ticket. 6 of 1, half a dozen of another.

But I say for a few hundred more, getting the directional arrows and signal COUNT is worth it. Imagine passing a "false signal" that you knew was always there or a cop in the other direction, THEN getting busted by a cop up ahead because your detector just beeps. The V1 would show "2" and point to the sides and front.

The true test of a good radar detector [comparison] is not in the day to day usage. But it's that one or two times when you have a very unique, difficult situation that V1 managed to really save your a$$, like
1)230am on a deserted road with smokey sitting in the medium clocking cars every 5-10 minutes, or
2)Hardcore motorcycle cop with short-range low power Ka handheld radar being sneaky and completely hidden.
A lot of radar detectors work in most situations because cops don't really care if they catch the detector-owners or not as long as they catch somebody speeding. But every once in a while, you look at your V1 and actually say "Thank you. I really appreciate that warning."

My window's still all messy from driving through the bug-infested country this weekend, so I tried to show as little window as possible. I had the detector mounted on the passenger side of the mirror to keep it out of the driver's way, and I had the remote mounted on the *cough* coin holder *cough* because it is an easily viewable location and it makes it easy for me to push the silence button (and if the sticky stuff messes up the finish, it'll be easy to replace the coin holder). You can see the power cord right above the detector and on the left of the remote, but very little of the cords are showing. The remote's power cord goes back to a very small notch the installer put on the edge of that black wood trim. Oh, and the installer even put the fuse for the whole thing conveniently within reach of the main fusebox in the car. Anyways, I'm really happy with this layout, and if I ever decide to get rid of the car and keep the detector, I'll be able to pull it all out without leaving any noticable marks.
