I have a remote Bel, it is just above the speedo. Radar sensor is wired through engine bay, and down at bottom of bumper in back of bumper cover, and two laser sensors in f/r windows. Circuit City has or can order them for under $400, and you'll never have to worry about theft of your unit, nor cops seeing a detector. Your also talking to someone driving lots in VA and DC where detectors are not allowed-

Valentine One is in my ride.

The Escort 8500 is a close 2nd place finisher.

Yeah, Escort 8500 would be the best bang for the buck. You may be able to get it at around $280 at Best Buy or the net.

I have it and love it. I might be one of the only ones though, this is a v1 and escort board.

escort 8500 is pretty good for frontal protection just about the same performance like 90% of the v1.

for rear protection the 8500 doesnt COMPARE to the v1.

trust me i've had a 8500 for the past 2 years and switched to a v1 about a 3~4 weeks ago.
and I also LOVE the arrows

I've used the 980 plenty of times (borrowed from my roommate) and it's worked fine. Personally I'm about to buy a V1 though just tobe certain.

I had the dash model, it sucks compared to either the V1 or 8500.

So what has this turned into a poll now? Haha, or is it some sort of "silent" radar detector battle.

I have an 8500 but I'm seriously considering changing to a V1 for the arrows. It drives me nuts when it's going off and I can't see or know which direction the cop is.

Off E-bay. You can then send in the V1 to get updated software. Check the s/n first and enter it in the V1 website to see the cost of upgrades. Brand new they are $400. https://store.valentine1.com/store/

Gabe, get your ass up to Oregon, so they can dyno your car for the Uni-Chip for manual.

How's it going man?

Oh, and my next radar would be a V1 also.

The best is V1 followed by escort. Best value depends on how much you're willing to spend. I got a Vector 985 for only $160 brand new on ebay. it's not as good as either of the above but good enough for me. If you check roadandtrack.com, motortrend.com, automobilemag.com, and carandriver.com or bmw car club america you'll find radar detector comparison tests. Just stay away from the cheap ones and don't expect cordless detectors to perform that well.

Here's one link. Some of the models have been replaced by slightly augmented new models but (eg: Vector 980 became the Vector 985) but they are still essentially the same:
