Raced a Civic LX! Howcome I didn't win by more?

Ok so this guy about 20 years old gets along side of me at a light with his 2 door Civic LX manual. He gives me the nod I return it. Light turns green we both spin our tires a little bit. To 30 MPH he stayed no rmore than 5 feet back. At 60MPH he was 1.5 cars back and at 90 like 8 cars back. Howcome I didn't beat him more from 0-60 shouldn't I win by like 4-6 cars. After 60 I just started pulling strong though. He did have sticky Yoko's and looked like lighter rims and also heard his intake. But that still shouldn't have kept him this close. What else could he have had in his car. DC Headers?

Hondas have so many hi-perf. hop up parts to
make your head spin. I wish someone else would make headers cause don't think I can
wait much longer! HeHe!

When it comes to Civics you never know what could be under the hood. Alot of people I know have GSR engines in your rides or like a LS engine with a GSR head.. All kinds of Frankenstein rides and shit.

What are you talking about??? 0-30..you have an auto..he can drop the clutch...8-9 car lengths is where you should end up....
Anyway, You think a Porsche Turbo can beat us by 6 car lengths 0-30? I think you better understand that it's where you end up at the end is the real point.

I wasn't saying that I should beat him by 8-9 car lenghts right away.. I was just wondering why I was only 1.5 car lenghts ahead of him at 60 MPH. I figured a car that is stock about 2 seconds slower to 60 would be a lot more behind than that. So my question was what could have he had in it that could have improved his Accl so much. And how far should I be in front of him if his car is 2 seconds slow. It could have been an EX whatever the 2 door is.

Obviously if the guy is egging you on he has more than just a stock Civic.

Well, the little Civics aren't THAT much slower. If a CL-P does 0-60 in 7.0-7.2 stock, and a STOCK Civic does it in about 8.0 (EX) to 8.5 (LX), then there isn't a 2 second difference. Plus, he had the intake and stickier tires. Do you have your chrome CL-S rims on the car yet? That will definitely slow you down a tad... extra weight over your stock CL-P wheels.

Anyhow who is the Silver CL-P with tints, saw you at the light of camelback and scottsdale road about two or three days ago with looked like 2 or three people in your car.

all i know is that i was driving and all of a sudden i hear the civic next to me floor it as it starts to pass by me so i floor it and it is a car a head and i barely had enough power to cathc up and pass it but i did. as soon as i hit 3rd gear i just got more and more ahead. but still it was no
"smokin a civic", cuz to about 50 its was pretty damn close even though it was an unfair race, but still i need a j32 in my car so i can say i smoked his ass.

If the guy had a swap, he should of beaten you. I had both a gsr swap and a ITR swap in a hatchback and they would of beaten the CL no problem. And that was on 17" rims with shitty Nitto 450's
Once I hit Vtec it was all over, that thing would fly. And don't mess with CRX's with swaps those little suckers are really quick.

In street racing, never underestimate the holeshot. A jump of .5-.7 seconds is fairly imperceptible ie "light turned green and we spun the tires a bit", but is a whale of an advantage one way or the other in the typical 0-80 or 30-80 street race (not to mention traction issues on the street, different lanes, etc.). A car must be considerably quicker to make up a half second in the an 8th mile or less...

This has already been mentioned but there may have been a swap in there. My nephew has a rather innocent looking '94 Civic with a '95 integra GSR engine implanted (apparently they swap with little to no modification). I can say that the car is really a screamer with that engine. But he also added headers and a homemade CAI. I drove the thing and it is kind of weird to drive a car that quick with so little torque. You don't really "feel" you're going fast but you're really chewing up a lot of real estate in a hurry.

Usually when I race Civic's its always close till about 30, but that is where it ends. As soon as I hit about 40 it's all over.

I don't know what's wrong with your CL...but I have yet to have a CIVIC beat me...although I haven't raced an ITR swap...
Let's see...LS w/turbo...EX w/ SC....GS-r...nope no ITR yet...

it was probably a a regular civic with headers and intake idoubt it had a swap i raced a 96 hatch with gsr and headers and no cat with a stock muffler and he was next to me all the way to 120 mph so i think that civiv had a stock motor

was this before or after the stroker/con rod mods made to your car? I would hope it was before?

Nothing is wrong with my Cl I just had alot of money invested in my hybrid. The gsr was pretty much stock other than bolt ons but the ITR swap had CTR cams, ti-retainers, portflow valve springs, JDM 4-1 header, apexi N1 cat-back, AEM CAI, J&S safeguard unit, Chipped ECU, etc.. A clip can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Honda_....../Happy2.mov but that was a slow run I had my brother in the car and I got a lot of wheel spin. But notice the 9000 rpm shifting.

Wow, Im surprised nobody mentioned this, it's pretty obvious......these dudes take these little econo-cars and put a nice healthy shot of NOS through them.....instant performance car! Isn't NOS great? It lets little 16 year-old Johnny baggypants get a Civic DX and become an instant terror on the streets.
