Raced BMW Z8
On the way home from my $1.96 poor man's meal at Taco Bell last night, I tooled up Westheimer (pretty much "the drag" in Houston)a little bit for funsies. I was making a U-turn heading back toward my house and saw a couple of headlights screaming up the road behind me. Had to stop at the next light and up pulls one bad-ass looking machine. I wasn't sure what it was at first and thought it was a Qvale Mangusta...I then saw the propellor badge on the trunk and realized, "Oh, that's one of those Z8s."
He had the top down and a chick in the passenger seat and he crept forward to be right even with me. I gave a little throttle blip, and he gave one back. The start was pretty even, holeshot-wise, but he spun a bit. I hooked perfectly and was about 2 cars ahead at the 1-2 (35 mph for me), he was pulling on me ever so slightly from 35 to about 70 or so when he shut her down. I feel I'd have been able to hold him off well into triple digits if we were so inclined (I never am on a city street).
What kind of specs does that ride have? hp/tq? 0-60? 1/4 mile? I would assume that it would be good for at least high 12s.

I'd say I believe him...most guys who buy Z8s either don't know how to drive them or are too scared to push them hard. A modified Cobra with a good (lucky?) driver could take one off the line. He just probably wouldn't hold the lead for very long.
Qvale Mangusta, huh? I think you mean MG X80

I'd bet money that pull_t's cobra beat the z8.
bear in mind, though:
1. pull_t's cobra isn't anywhere near stock (and the e.t. in his sig isn't current for his mods, if I recall correctly).
2. the typical z8 owner prolly doesn't practice his drag-style launches to the extent the typical cobra/gt does.
3. the z8 had a passenger.
4. pull_t's cobra is more than capable of holding off his roommate's c5 vette to 80ish.
5. pull_t is a pretty good driver. (not better than me, though... )

It was in the part of Houston where $100k+ vehicles aren't at all uncommon.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I suppose. The 13.3 in my sig was run before I put in many of my mods I have now(everything after, and including the DRs I didn't have). I hate to bench race, but since I haven't been out to the track since all that, I have to in trying to "justify" my race. I'll get 12.8-12.9 next time I go and if the MT stats of 12.6@111 are close to correct, then you'd better be right on the ball to beat me with it.

First of all the engine on that Z8 is the same as the BMW M5 which basically puts out 394hp. And you said you said "he was pulling on me ever so slightly..?? lol! Sorry but i doubt that.

of course, it's even more likely that you and kp simply don't know what the hell you're talking about here...

I never said his cobra couldn’t beat the Z8 I just question the fashion in which the Z8 lost

OK, guys...let's say I was driving a car that was clearly .5-.9 slower at the track than another vehicle. Let's say an Acura CL-S (14.7-14.9) and a stock Mustang GT, auto-99+ (14.0-14.2).
If the race were described on here exactly as mine was, an even start,holeshot-wise, then the Mustang spinning with me up two car lengths at 35, then an ever so slight pull on me from 35-70, then I bet you guys would believe it. And in my car vs. the Z8, there really isn't even as much of a performance difference, especially when we're talking sub-100 speeds. 394 hp for the Z8, certainly impressive, but my crank numbers even at a conservative .16 correction factor is 340 with torque of 346. Throw in the weight difference of about ~150 pounds in vehicles plus another ~125 for his passenger, my short gearing, drag radials and pretty good drivng skills/experiecne when it comes to launching my car and it really isn't that hard to believe, is it guys?
KP - wow, 12.9 at 110, even before my latest mods, my 13.3 at 105 is more than enough to fend that off the way I descibed.
Jam - he wasn't learning to drive a manual, if he was, then I'd have been well ahead considering the performance differences above.
1SICKLEX - There are plenty of cars out there as fast or faster than the Z8 I'll run up against, but finding one of the 500 Z8s with a driver williing to go and a safe (as far as racing on the street goes) stretch of road to run on, is once in a lifetime.
Good thing I'm a fair minded guy, or I'd be all over any CL-S over Altima/GT/new Maxima kills posted here where clearly the numbers show it is impossible by a mere mortal.

I can see you beating him in the 1/4, but not on the highway those cars have mad top end. I read in Car&Driver that when it was tested against a 360 Modena, it pulled on it and was much faster once over 130 than the Modena.
