Quick go with Altima 3.5 5-speed

A guy I work with has a 5 speed manual 02 Altima and loves to talk trash about his car...which is stock except for a drop in filter. My 6 speed is bone stock (unfortunately).

Anyways, I came up behind him this morning on a side street and decided to breeze by him as we made a right hand turn onto a four lane (each way) road. We came up to the first light and I accidentaly pulled up too far underneath the light so I got a horrible jump off the line. I really didn't put forth any effort to catch up.

Coming up to the next light we both slow down enough to time the light to have a rolling start. He was about a car length ahead of me at the time the light changed. I put it in second and gunned it. VTEC kicked in and I promptly caught up about a half car length...and then the unthinkable: I goofed going into thrid . By that time he just about shut it down, but I was more pissed at myself for "half" missing a shift.

This is really the first time I have gone out and raced with anyone...after having my car for just over a year. It was a good quick race. I'm pretty impressed with Nissan for finally turning around the Altima. Do wish my car had a little extra under the hood.

Sounds like you need to practice. Since you don't race often, I bet the adreneline was pumping!!! Those Altimas are quick, and very nice looking too!!! I would think you should take him though if you didn't blow the shift. Have fun, and be safe.

Yeah you could have taken him man

But good race anyway, work on your shifts, that way the next time you can school him, and he'll go, MAN< what did you do under the hood? and you can say..."nothing, oh, were we racing before? I didn't know it then..."

Good Almost Kill!

Thanks guys! The adrenaline was definitely pumping hard. I was so focused on going by him I forgot which gear I was in (duh!) and thus tried to go into 5th rather than 3rd gear. I need the practice in the worst way.

GS Dave...I've read some of your posts...nice sleeper car you've got there!

I find some of these new Altimas guys to be the most ignorant people ever. I thought some of ya'll were bad when the TL-S came out. Ya'll got NOTHING on the 3.5 guys.

Learn how to shift dude. He's gonna talk more smack now.

Well, maybe the CL-S6 is a turtle. But with the effect of having shorter legs on the inside of the turn.

As long as you work on that shifting its all good under the hood - as for those Altima's being nice (no disrespect Dave!) the interior contains the crappiest stuff! Awfully cheap leather, plastic knobs and dials!!! Acura luxury is ten times as nice!
