question for people with 35% all around tint + V1

Hello,
I am thinking about tinting my car with FormulaOne. Do you know if this brand has metallic tint in the films? I use a V1 and don't want the performance to be hindered by the tint. OR even without metallic tint, do you notice any significant decrease in V1 range with darker windows?
Also how much did you pay for the tint work?
Thanks for you suggestions,
j.

There are postings already up that will answer your question... Tint cost about $230-$250.. The V1 will not suffer from the tint... In theory it should, but in practice I've not seen any difference. But check out my car and look up some post on the V1...

Some people here have Metallic tint on their cars and say that it doesn’t effect the performance of either their RADAR detectors or NAV systems.

The FAQ section of the V1 specifically says that METALLIC tint is NOT recommended with their unit.

I have 35% NON-METALLIC on all but the front of my car and don’t have any problems with either the V1 or NAV systems.

Anyone hear anything about the effects of metallic-based tint on radio reception (back window) or alarm/remote start range???

I don't understand what it takes you guys to understand that there is no "practical" effect on metallic tints on The Radar Detector, Radio, or Navi.. I have perfect reception even when i'm out in the boondocks.. My V1 Range is not any different as it was before I got my tints. I decided to go with the metallic tints because V1 said they hadn't tested all car windshields to see how much the factory tint would affect their unit. I asked them specifically about the Acura CL-S and the techs said "We Don't know about those, haven't tested them".. They told me frankly they didn't plan on doing so either cuz it would take up to many resources (time)." With that being said I thought it was better to find out myself.. So I did, and i'm happy that i got the tints and nothing was effected (as far as I could notice). Again, it makes pefect since in the laboratory and paper, but the effect isn't great enough for you to notice.
.....I have a great suggestion for a test before you get your tints.. As for a small sample from any store selling the tints.. Like a 12in sq sample. Tell them you are making a comparitive study before you make your choice. Take the sample and cover the antennas (screens) of the V1 or any other detector by securing it with tape.. Drive around with it on a designated stretch of road for about 1hr.. Remove it and drive on that same road for the same distance... This is so you can identify verifiable stationary Radar Sources (i.e. banks, door openers). Make sure that you monitor and record the distance between the first beep to when you get to the source. If you're using the V1, write down the time/distance it takes from the 1st beep to when arrow UP arrow turns to Side arrows. And from when it's at Side arrows to Back arrow. This will give you a fair assessment of the range all around. As far as your Navi. just turn it on and see if there is a delay in the frame elapse time when you're tracking your motion. And for the radio, try to pick up radio stations that are far away from your town.. Not a popular station cuz they might operate with a strong giga hz transponder.
....Anywho, I can't test this out on my car anymore, but I will probably place my P8500 and V1 in a friend's car and try it.. I can get tint various tint samples to work with.. If you guys are willing to try this just let me know so I won't bother.. If not that i'll get off my lazy ass and post up some results.. The V1 and Escort techs will probably find this info very helpfull too.. They do too many of their testing in labs and I don't think they are taking several other factors into account.. To be honest, I don't think they did very much research for some time anymore, but they kinda have to since the competition from Escort is causing them to lose potential clients. FYI, this guy over tells me that he has a P8500 in his car right now.. I asked him what his opinion was on it and he told me that there was no comparison.. When I asked them about the V1 picking up different bands for the same source that my P8500 monitored, they got upset and told me to take it up with Escort cuz they were wrong. So this test should suffice a lot of questions once and for all. No Labs, No fancy equipment, and nothing else but the real world...
