Question about refueling and the suction sound?
I refueled my mother car the other day and heard the familiar sound of the pressure relieveing from the fuel tank when I removed the fuel cap. But yet I can't recall the last time I head my fuel cap do the same. Are out cars supposed to make that suction sound? Are all cars supposed to make that suction sound?

yeah, it's normal. The owner's manual even mentions this in the "filling the fuel tank" section. The sound is probably from the "refueling vapor recovery system" that's mentioned in the manual.

I don't get it, I even recall refueling a Taurus (company vehicle) and hearing that sound. And I also recall something that if the sound is not present there could be a problem with the vapor recovery system.

You won't hear it as much in colder weather or when the fuel level is high. The air inside the fuel tank will expand in warmer weather (heat warms the air), causing the pressure to build up in the tank. The lower the fuel level, the more air in the tank, so the more pressure builds up. Low fuel on warm days will cause the most pressure release when opening the tank. If you don't let the tank get much below half, you won't notice it as much (or at all).
