Q: Will an 03 CL-S screw up after a year of hardcore racing?
I have a question because I have a friend that tells me that if i race the CL Type-S 03 and modify it in a year it will be needing maintinence every 2 weeks. He conjectures that because of his uncle's CL 01 his uncle spent at least 15k or more on the car and converted it to a 3.5litter. He says his uncle's car is always at an Acura dealer because he raced it and about a year later it started needing to maintained often. Also he has told me about a few other ppl he knew that had car problems with a CL and he says. The car really isn't made for racing. I know it isn't really made for racing most cars are yet ppl race them. My question is.....Will my modified 03 CL-S need to be maintinenced a lot after a year or so?

Where is my super sauce?
What do you plan to do to it? Bolt on mods are just that, you bolt them on (correctly) and forget about them.
Assuming the installation was good there shouldn't be any additional maintenance issues. If you are planning on opening up the internals, that may be another ball of wax.
If you are going to 'hard core' race it then you will have to maintain it. F1 cars have high maintenance issues too. Hard use of anything implies that your are pushing it to it's limits - you will wear things down.
If you are planning on using the CL-S as a drag or slalom racer I think you bought the wrong car.

Ya i'm mainly going to be fully modifying the car's internals and external. So i don't know if it's a yes to my question then i will just most likely put the car to show instead of racing it..

it weights 3500 pounds, its not a race car. With all the bolt ons you will not have any maintenance problems at all. Or even if you stroke it to 3.5L, which doesnt cost 15k, it can be done for 3-4k. Type R has it doen he would be the one to ask.

If you race a car it will need more maintenance. High loads, high stress tend to cause things to wear or break faster. If it's a Corvette, a M3, a Civic it doesn't matter.

Seems BS to me... unless you are tracking the CLS on weekend to weekend schedule...no worries... a drag strip here and some HW spirited driving there are just fine... just make sure you do regualar maintanance like Oil Change, ATF drain and replace tires rotaion, brake inspection... usual stuff... prety solid car so far...

trying to get a lil V-I
could you point your friends uncle to this forum. I would be interested in seeing the mods he's done to his car.
And, yes, if you beat on your car (ie: tracking it, auto-crossing, drag strip, etc) it will need more maint than usual. Typically not a good idea.

As a matter of perspective, I believe that F1 cars, NASCAR and the other professional-type race cars get their engines rebuilt after every race (or before....whichever) in addition to getting things like new trannys, differentials, etc. And that equipment is built for high speed, high abuse racing. Consumer level cars of any grade are not designed for such use/abuse.
Yes, you will need more maintenance if you beat the crap out of your car. In other words, don't treat it like a rental.

Do you call a dozen 1/4 miles runs a racing drag racing day, each is 15 sec is hard core racing.... not a single Major Work was done after that event... kept doing regualer maintanance...
