Porsche article on Bloomberg this morning

"Porsche, the most profitable European carmaker, said 6-month earnings rose 27% on demand for the redesigned 911 model, which has a base price of as much as $180,000...

the sports car maker has said profit will grow this year, even as it invests to expand its product line and industry sales decline in the US and Europe. The company expects the new Cayenne sport-utility vehicle, which goes on sale in October, to boost sales, while the introduction of the $400,000 Carrera GT next year will increase profit...

the 911 has a base price as much as 3 times that of the highest base, $51,600, for the older Boxster model. Boxster sales are falling. Pretax profit rose 10% to 154 million Euros for the fiscal first half, according to preliminary estimates. Net income grew at a higher rate because of lower taxes following changes in German corporate-tax law, the company said...

Demand for the new 911 was "particularly strong," with sales rising 16% to 13,090 cars, Porsche said. Sales of the Boxster model fell 13% to 10,280 units. Production is expected to rise 1.5% to 25,100 vehicles. Porsche won't be able to match its record 2001 sales of 25,412 units in North America this year. The Boxster, which hasn't "had a facelift in 6 years," and "generally weak" demand in the US are to blame for the anticipated "slight" decline in unit sales. The company doesn't plan to offer 0% financing to customers because it would cost "unnecessary money." "

that's about it!!

It's about time the Cayenne is finally introduced!! It seems like they have been talking it up for ten years now.

Unfortunately for them, by the time the Cayenne is released there are already going to be many other high end, high performance SUVs on the road from BMW, Mercedes, Lexus.

Seems like they might have missed the boat on this one. We'll see.
