Pontiac GrandPrix GTP Group Competition!

Ah.. how about a 24hr test drive?

It seems interesting and hard to refuse! I want to see what those 280lbft of torque will do! PLus I want see how tuned is G comptition package is. Also, want to test this HUD. Do not know if it has a NAV as option.

BTW, the new GTO is not that bad.. it comes with 5.7L V8! will smoke any Type-S!

Pontiac is back into the performance game...

the new HUD in the GTP is much better than the one on the previous gen of GTP or corvette.

its got more info, radio stations, track numbers of cds, transmission gear, speed, and other things as well. its VERY useful, and it looks cool as fuck when you run the car in "STEALTH MODE" where you can shut off all interior gauges accept the HUD.

and expensive. If you crack the windshield it's close to 4K to replace. I got a chip in my dads vette windshield and the dealer wanted close to 6K to change it out (what a rip off). But the OEM glass is fucking expensive. Luckily I was able to fill it up and now it's not even noticeable

I actually work for a Pontiac dealership. I had a 2000 GTP before I got my TL-S. I absolutely loved my GTP, the torque was intoxicating. I had replaced the supercharger pulley with a smaller one and a few other mods. My car was pushing 270 hp and 300 lb/ft of torque. Pretty sweet, an $80 pulley that gives you 30 hp and 20 lb/ft of torque. I wish we had an option like that for our cars.

Anyway, I've driven the new GTP comp G and it is very quick. I'd say it'd be a dead heat 0-60 with TL or CL Type-S. The torque is ridiculous on that thing, and it handles way better than our cars. But the level of refinement on our cars is 10 times that of any Pontiac. That's why I made the switch. Plus the new G.P. is ugly as sin, unlike the previous gen which I thought was quite good looking.

The G.P. is ugly, the new one anyway. If you want a Pontiac the one to wait for is the 05 GTO, it's been pretty much confirmed that it's going to get hood scoops and dual exhausts (maybe a small HP increase) due to criticism that the car looks a bit plain.

The new GTP's are so ridiculously ugly. It seems like Pontiac is finally getting rid of the nasty body cladding they slapped all over their cars, but its still not an attractive car. The interior is all cheap plastic too. Do the new ones come with a limited slip?? Cause i'm sure there is gonna be serious torque steer otherwise. The older ones were pretty quick down the straight line, but couldn't handle for shit. I looked at buying one before I bought my CL-S. They do have a nice exhaust note though.

Beltfed: The '04 GTO that's coming by the end of November already has true dual exhaust. They are both coming out of the right side (I think it's the right), but it is a true dual exhaust. On the GTO website, you can listen to it idling and revving, and it sounds fantastic!

mrsteve: There is no limited slip. There's also damn near zero torque steer either. Nissan should take a page out of Pontiac's book on that tip. I drove an 03 Maxima and 03 Altima 3.5, and they both had awful torque steer. Pontiac has their powertrain's straight, now they need help on the exterior design and interior quality of materials. I think they're well on their way.

I just remember serious torque steer from the previous gen. GTP, and my dad had a Bonneville SSEI and that thing pulled the steering wheel out of your hands. I hated driving it.

As I stated previously, I had a 2000 GTP with more power than stock and had almost no torque steer at all. That car was so much fun to drive, and believe me I drove it hard. I could easily gun it from a stop and hold the wheel with one hand with no fighting to keep it in line.

I miss my GTPs. I had a 97 and 98 GTP 2 door both with extensive modding, and the sweet heads up display. By the way, a regular $200 windshield does the trick...contrary to most stories.

Anyway, the 98 I owned went 13.73@100.31 with simply a couple flowmasters, a 3.4" pulley, open cone filter and a 50 degree chicago night.

My 97 which got heads, cam, pulley, etc etc etc made it down to a 12.5 @106.9 here in the AZ heat
