Anybody happy or not happy with pilot sports?
Looking for new summer only tires (winter not a problem; already have blizzaks).
$ not an issue.

Pilot Sports are awesome!!!!
BMW 7-series has em...i've driven 1 with the Pilot Sports, and it's even better than my Pilot Sport A/S in the twisties!!! i would highly recommend them as a 3-season tire!!
Consider also the Toyo T1S, Bridgestone Pole Position's, Khumo ECSTA's for a value play, and Yokohama AVS Sport

Pilot sports are fantastic tires! But I just moved to S-03 Pole Positions.
A better tire and quite a bit less.

to be honest
i have had the paradas and the toyos......pilot sports rip an asshole out of all of them......i have 45 series on my stock rim and they are awesome....they are worth every penny....i am totally demanding on my tires...they are like the headers...if u can afford them get them...of course there will be dorks on here that will say the are not that good...they are lying...best tires for our cars...all the SO 3 and toyo prox clones need to bow down

I need new tires too and I am seriouslly considering these
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (225/50/ZR17), but the tire rack shop I went to say they do not recommend this size with my car, because they are different size than OE. What kind of effects do going different tire series have?

A new tire size has to be within a certain range of difference from OEM. This is to make sure the odometer/speedometer, traction control and ABS electronics don't get screwed up. You must follow the plus-sizing recommendations of the industry.

Pilot Sport A/S
I'm also considering the pilot sport A/S. The rep at Tire Rack said that the 225/50/17 would be fine on the stock wheels- just a little wider. FYI, Here is how Michelin rates the pilot sport vs. the pilot sport A/S:
Performance/Handling: Regular-10, all-season-9
Wet Traction: Regular-8, all-season-10
Winter Traction: Regular 3, all-season-7
Tread Life: Regular 4, all-season-6
Quiet Ride: Regular 5, all-season-6
I too would like to hear more from anyone riding on these tires- particularly the A/S. Thanks!

I've had the Pilot A/S tires on my car for roughly 2000 miles now and I'm 110% happy with them. Rock solid in the rain and great on dry pavement. They are pricey, but well worth it, especially if you need a 4-season tire.
And the difference between the 215/50 and 225/50 is small; less than 2% in overall diameter. You'll never notice the difference on your speedometer.
Get em'.

I've haven't noticed any problems with the issue you're asking about at highway speeds.
Well... There is one highway issue....
The tires grab MUCH better than the stocks, so it's way more fun taking a clover-leaf exit at higher speeds.

Good Price for Pilot Sport A/S
What would you guys consider a good price for the Pilot Sport A/S? Local shops here (Raleigh, NC) seem to want around $235 ready-to-roll.

just a little reality check on the Pilot Sport A/S...
these tires are awesome A/S tires, but they are not the track performers 1 would want them to b
for everyday driving, these tires rank among the best of 'em...however, ferget autox and dragging 3-season definitely has the edge over 4-season in racing situations...i, as well as a couple others who have the Pilot Sport A/S's, can relate to these issues
still, tho, im more than satisfied with the A/S and would do no different if given another opportunity

My tire guy convinced me to try the S-03 Pole Positions
(225/45-17).
$800 incl. comes to my house with his truck, mounts, balances, new stems, including tax.
He said that people have been really happy with them.
I'll let you know.

This might interest you (the s-03s rock)...
You also might want to check TireRack pricing at www.tirerack.com in the size you want...
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/bs_s03_rd.jsp
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....+Pole+Position
$155.00 each in stock. Installation is not that much and you can skip the tax depending on where you are...
BTW, I biased towards the Toyos T1S and depending on area temperature, and surface, it would be hard to find a clear winner between the S-03, T1S, etc.

Thanks guys for your help. I'm still deciding between the Pilot Sport a/s 225/50 17's or the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 215/50/ 17's. The guy at the local tire rack store says that the difference won't be noticeable, but he says it'll have effects such as speedometer misread, traction control issues, and gas milege problems.

IMO, forget about the traction control issues (with the sizes your looking at)...
IMO, the gas mileage will go down a bit if you get the stickier tires, but that is what you want (better traction -- yes/no)?
The A/S look like a nice choice for 4-season. You will lose a very small amount of torque to the wheels in the 225/50-17. (Lose 40lbs and you wont notice.)

Actually, they are a bit taller and wider than the stock tires:
http://tires.michelin-us.com/assets/..._pilotmxm4.pdf (MXM4 link)
Revs/mile (a good figure to use along with "loaded radius"): 819
Diameter (unloaded): 25.5"
Section width: 8.7”
http://tires.michelin-us.com/assets/...lotsportas.pdf
Revs/mile (a good figure to use along with "loaded radius"): 795
Diameter (unloaded): 26.1" (about .6” taller)
Section width: 9.0”
Effective torque reduced by 795/819 or around 3% (6 lb-ft at wheels)
Speedo will show 62 MPH when actual road speed is 60 MPH. (Watch the speed around radar traps…)

Hard to Find
Nobody here (Raleigh, NC) has these tires in stock! I have them on order from Sears at a great price ($899 for 4 out the door) but thought I'd call around and see if I could get them elsewhere sooner- NOPE! They don't even have them at TireRack online. The Sears guy says they are back-ordered at Michelin. So, I guess I'll just forget about it and have a nice surprise when they arrive.
