Pics of buddies new RX8 6MT

2004 Mazda RX8- 6 speed.

i like this car ALOT. its badass. great in the twisties, better than the CL. handles GREAT all-around. love the interior. a little tighter than the CL in the rear, but the front seats have more leg room, just a tad bit more narrow. roof is also a bit lower. um... its really fast. feels faster than my CL. i had way too much fun in it. stock tires dont break loose. clutch is very tight and the pedals are nice and close together. short shifter is great. stereo is just OK. very comfortable inside. u get alot of looks in this car. whats this thing do the 1/4 mile in anyway?

he test drove the evo8 and wasnt crazy about the interior and the way the car handled. says it may have had something to do with the salesperson not letting him open up the throttle enough to truly appreciate it.

Yeah nice...but not worth the $9,000 dealer markup in price. This car isn't worth $40,000.

No, they're actually being discounted as low as $25k due to the horsepower situation Mazda is facing.

That said, my best friend came by with his new RX8 and (missing horsepower or not) that thing is pretty quick. (at least quicker than my 2K2 Maxima)

The powerband is ALOT more linear than the advertised 250hp/159lb-ft numbers would indicate. It's a much better power delivery than the S2Ks F20 motor; although the RX8 didnt feel as quick when driven on the edge.

Nice car.

I've read they weren't running nearly as quick as people expected them to. Still a sharp looking car.

I really love this car and i still want to test drive one.

But i went to a rx8 forums and seems the owners complain alot about gas mileage, most are getting 14mpg!!

I dont really care about the HP ratings, they still are decently quick.

there are currently 12 of them sitting on the lot of my local dealership - 6 red, 2 grey, 2 silver, 1 blue, and 1 black on the showroom floor. All (can't vouch for the black one for obvious reasons) have new window stickers with 'corrected' hp ratings.
car is easy to drive, plenty of headroom (more than the CL), and the power curve is linear (a trademark of the rotary). however, as has been stated, with only a handful of people getting anywhere near 20 mpg on the highway, and most pressing to get high teens, this makes the car a non-starter. Drove an S60R yesterday ... this car is giving me something to think about, but don't want to hijack the thread.

1/4 mile in the 15s I dont know if that can be really considered a sports car. I would take the RSX-S anyday and save the extra money for mods

first, Mazda claims it is 14.5s at 95MPH. no one seems to go below 15.2s.

Mazda claimed first 247Hp then lowred the number to 238 HP. Dynos of the 6-speed are between 175-185 WHP. Mazda engineers expected 204 WHP. there is a 20 WHP missing.

2 Drawbacks:
1) Milages is too low 13 MPG to a Max of 23 MPG. average 16-18 MPG
2) The detuning of the engine ( ECU) due to emission restrictions.

I should wait for the real 300 HP version! Wait a sec... Mazda will void your warranty if you do any kind of "Amature Racing" 1/4 miles passes, roadcross, any kind of racing... How gey is that?

Few were refused warranty service because according to Mazda Racing == Abusing your RX-8 True Sports Car... It does not make sense for me. This makes me affraid to buy a Mazda.

Wow, between the H.P. problems, dealer markups and what Nashua had to say about the Track issue, it seems like Mazda is really trying to kill this !!

first off, theres no way the rx8 has MORE headroom than my CL. i drove that car today and headroom isnt exactly plentiful. i do like the interior, so i'm gonna disagree w someone else on that too. my opinion of course. he read the thread and he does agree with the MPG thing. he says it sucks balls on gas mileage. only 15.2 1/4 mile? wow that sucks. dealer sold him the rx8 as a 150hp car, that was the first he's heard of the decrease hp thing. good to know tho. mazda's website has the corrected hp numbers currently i believe...

What's the deal with all these new cars having a layer of plastic shrouds over the engine bay.

I was disappointed by the torque on that car. But I'm really surprised and put off that Mazda would take that stance in regards to warranty. It seems that most other makers are leaning towards making compacts more affordable and modable. I.E. dodge with the SRT-4, also Dodge's concept car Razor and even Pontiac's Solstice, and what about Nissan's Spec V? Why would Mazda go that way in the age "street-afying" nearly every compact.

you guys are straight mean. that car looks nice as hell, does it have a kit?
anyways its not all about 1/4 mile times. this car would rock all sports cars in the corners. i dont like mazda's much but that car is simply amazing in corners. ever watch the bestmotoring vid with the old rx7 vs high end sports cars like the nsx and skyline, evo etc...
the mazda won, and the rx8 would rock with a turbo added on.
yes its slow, but this car is either for those who love the looks, or the ones that plan on tracking the car.

wtf is up with Mazda and HP "revisions"??????

i mean really, i could understand the Miata's being a fluke thing...now other models r going through the same thing???? geez, it makes them look so bad, not to mention desperate b/c they're torn between exciting the public with performance figures while being realistic to cover their a$$es at the same time

and it's an absolute shame, too, b/c this car's got a lot of good fresh styling lines...what a waste IMO

How sound is the rotary teechnology used in the RX8??? Is that what is supposed to differentiate the RX8 from the competition? I just don't understand how a car like that will sell to the masses...

I ran an auto in my modded 99 tl-p, i killed by many cars, but when we would hit the twisties, he would be only like 3 cars back, but in the straights i would over power him. We stopped and talked and i saw the auto. Now the manual may be a different story, but i test drove one with my lil bro and it sucked balls. Not fast enough for the price, I'd take a 6 speed 350 anyday over this car.

why does the car get such bad mileage with a 1.3 liter engine? Is the 1.3 liters the displacement of one of those lobes or all 3 combined?

I love the front and rear of the car, but from the side, it reminds me of Ace and Gary Mobile...
