Performance driving in a FWD....

Ok,

Back in the land when I didn't know what an import was, I was told that with a RWD, you should downshift, and accelerate through corners. I've did that, and it works great!

Ok, now that I have a FWD 6 speed, I was watching the eval video of the 6 speed on temple of Vtec. The driver (who seemed experienced), claimed that on a heavy FWD car like the CL, you should brake into the corner to load the suspension, and then accelerate out. I have better results on the FWD with this method.

So, is that the way you should do it? I know the stock springs in the front get pretty skittish when you start taking weight off of them (i.e. accelerating hard up cloverleaf).

It is rule regarsless of the RWD or FWD... you brake before the corner... to fastest possible without losing traction than once you reach the apex of the corner you start to accelerate again...

So Barke, downshift, clear apex and then accelerate....

Dowshift would slow you down and prepare u to accelerate out of the cornner.

Loading the front tires may help maximizing the traction but since its front wheel heavy... understeer is inherent... however, I would like to be sure... is the understeer due to high speed at which the corner is being taken or if the accerleration is increasing or combo of both?

Just to be sure...

Ok, so that's the deal with both (just curious....).

I think they were talking about loading the front suspension so that there is less give, which would lead to less roll on the corner. Works well on the CL-S, but it's something new to me.

In my little brain it would seem that downshifting and accelerating thorugh a corner would be better (since you'd transfer weight to the back and even out the distribution)... But, that's my little brain.

And I know that CL-S doesn't prefer that method, so physics is proving my little rbain wrong.

brake before you turn, if you are turning with 100% of your traction then brake or accelerate you will start to understeer.

Seriously,

The first you have to do is lift off the right pedal. Second no hard braking, but do brake to slow a bit... let VSA do its job.... keep cornering and wish the best!

It depends on how much traction you've lost. In which direction your car is going. As a general rule of thumb NO, because you in a turn the weight has transfered off to such a degree that the one wheel you have with all it's weight on it will slow down of all sudden cause you to loose control. The beste advice is to let off of the gas and just STEER like you've never STEERED before.

Acutally, u should also ease of the steering... and try to gain traction...

thanks

great links nashua

also, i'm dumb but it goes w/o saying that u steer in the direction opposite of where the car is pulling to? i.e. car is tryna go 2 the left, steer 2 the right, no?

If you cornering to the right and it understeered.... it means it kept going straight rather turning.... if you crank the steering hard to the right you are making the problem WORSE... you need to go easy on the steering column... try to keep the front wheels rolling and not screaming like fuked pigs... SMALL correction...

Number one rule to follow when you're loosing or have lost control: Never look at anything you don't want to hit... look where you want to go.

General rule of thumb when loosing traction: Brakes are bad, mkay?

Edit: Oh yeah, beware of decreasing radius turns
