Painting my calipers.

I am thinking about painting my brake calipers red or black. I know black looks best on some colors but was wondering what it would look like on SSM.

I painted my ssm 3G's black. I was debating between black and red, in fact I even bought red but backed out at the last minute. I am very glad I went black.

Why paint them? Just get covers.

if you go to a sign shop you can get them to make you ACURA decals (get them to make them with the thickest vinyl, or a vinyl made for painting) and then paint the front of the caliper white, when it dries lay down the decals and paint the whole thing black. When you are finished you can remove the decals and have black calipers with white lettering. I am doing this sometime I already have the ACURA decals.

^ That sounds like it would look really nice. Definitely post pics when you're done that. I've been wanting to do my calipers black, and maybe putting the Acura decals would be a nice touch....i think some matching SSM paint for the decal would look good too.

You won't be able to put lettering. The caliper has a gap in the middle. There's no room for letters.

Wouldn't the heat absolutely destroy decals anyway?

Decals will be destroyed thats why you need to use them as a mask. Here is a pic of someone who did it on the TSX. However, I don't think as decals they would survive.

to be honest i like the black, but Acura's new cars that come out of the show room like the tsx for example are painted with a nice silver. I think i might paint mine silver, because its OEM?

sorry but the car was dirty when i took that rite now

I will defiantly have a DIY done. I decided to go with the black. I bought the kit this afternoon and hope to get it done Saturday if the weather permits. Thanks for all of the input guys. I think I will be happy with the black.

meh, I don't get what all the hype is for black rotors. IMO you might as well leave them stock if your gonna paint them black. If I paint my rotors I will probly go red or silver

Just a personal choice. I mean if you're gonna any time or money into it for wheels and such, might as well complete the package and finish it off with some clean lookin calipers!

yea I just don't think anyone will ever notice black rotors. People don't ever notice your stock calipers just gray

The only possible way I would paint them black is if I got black wheels, which I would never do

its not always about other people noticing your car. like i think i might paint mine black and it has nothing to do with other people noticing it. i want to do it cause it looks better. i got 19's and i just ordered some r1 rotors i think it would look better with black calipers.

Exactly. When you do the work, its cause you want to see it when you look at it. But it its cool as hell when other people notice it. Especially people who can appreciate the time and effort, like the people on here!

well FYI it hides the ugliness of the calipers especially if not BBKing.

After seeing the pics I'm really glad I decided to go with black. I want to add a nice touch, but not draw a lot of attention to the stock brakes. Within the next month or so I should be getting some cross drilled rotors. Hopefully R1 Concepts or Rotoras. I think they will look good with the black calipers.

I think I must be one of the few that thinks painting them silver is the way to go. This is just my opinion, but unless you're doing a BBK, red looks too "ricey" and the black just seems too... "stealthy".

I was going to do silver, but I think they will stand out too much against the silver paint and rims.

Sorry guys, it rained all day here and I was not able to get the calipers painted. I will try my best tomorrow, if not one day after school this week.

LOL, dude that's exactly why I painted mine black. I've got black accent on my rims and I wanted the Calipers to match for that "stealthy" look. I think that in the end, its all about how you want to set the car off. If you want it to look clean you go with silver or black to keep it simple and smooth. If you want it to stand out and be bold you do red or yellow. Just depends what you want and what you like.
